Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Inactive Sunday
Sanders (back) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Sanders was added to the Browns' injury report with a 'questionable' designation Saturday due to back tightness, and he'll sit this one out and target a return to action after his team's Week 9 bye. In his absence Sunday, practice-squad elevation Bailey Zappe will serve as starting QB Dillon Gabriel's top backup.

Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Dealing with back tightness
Sanders is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots due to back tightness.
Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer relays that Sanders' back tightened up following the Browns' Week 8 prep, which will prompt the elevation of Bailey Zappe from the practice squad to the active roster. Whether Sanders suits up for Sunday's game in New England will depend on how he feels following pregame warmups, so his official status for Week 8 may not be officially known until the Browns announce their list of inactive players approximately 90 minutes before the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. If Sanders is inactive, Zappe would serve as the Browns' backup quarterback behind Dillon Gabriel.

Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Goes unused in Week 6 loss
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said after Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Steelers that he never considered benching starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel for Sanders at any point during the contest, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
The Browns sputtered offensively for much of the day, but the Browns' struggles didn't fall solely on Gabriel, who was sacked six times and absorbed another 16 hits. Injuries along the offensive line also limited the rushing attack, and Cleveland's pass catchers dropped multiple passes. The organization will still likely want to see what it has in Sanders before entering the offseason, but Gabriel appears set for a long look in the starting role before Stefanski considers a change at the position.
