Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Shows flashes in rookie season
Hairston (ankle) tallied 18 total tackles (14 solo) and five passes defensed, including two interceptions, over 11 regular-season games in 2025.
Hairston, a 2025 first-round pick from Kentucky, missed eight games (including playoffs) during his rookie campaign due to knee, ankle and head injuries. Despite this, the 22-year-old was productive when healthy, tying for second on the team in interceptions while ranking third in passes defensed. Additionally, Hairston tied for the third-most interceptions among rookie defenders. He's expected to start as one of Buffalo's top boundary corners ahead of the 2026 season.

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Won't play Saturday
Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Thursday that Hairston (ankle) won't play in Saturday's divisional-round matchup against the Broncos, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
Despite recording three total tackles across 42 defensive snaps in the Bills' Week 18 win over the Jets, Hairston is now in line to miss his second consecutive game due to an ankle injury. The 2025 first-round pick from Kentucky has appeared in 11 regular-season contests, posting 18 total tackles and five passes defensed, including two interceptions. While he's sidelined Saturday, expect Dane Jackson to operate as Buffalo's top reserve outside corner.

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Absent again
Hairston (ankle) was not on the field during Wednesday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Hairston was unable to participate in the Bills' wild-card victory over the Jaguars last Sunday due to an ankle injury that kept him out of practice during the week. The rookie cornerback has continued the trend of nonparticipation through Week 20, missing consecutive practices to start the week. Unless Hairston can upgrade his participation level in Thursday's session, he will likely miss the Bills' divisional round matchup with the Broncos on Saturday as well.

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Estimated as DNP on Tuesday
Hairston (ankle) did not participate in Tuesday's walkthrough practice.
Hairston was unable to play in the Bills' wild-card win against the Jaguars on Sunday due to an ankle injury he sustained during the Bills' regular-season finale against the Jets. He is considered week-to-week, so unless he returns to practice over the next two days, Hairston is unlikely to be available for Saturday's divisional-round clash against Denver.

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Ruled out for wild-card round
Hairston (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's AFC wild-card game against the Jaguars, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday that Hairston is considered "week-to-week" due to an ankle injury he sustained during Sunday's 35-8 win over the Jets on Sunday. The rookie first-rounder won't be available for the Bills' wild-card game but could return for the divisional round should Buffalo beat Jacksonville this Sunday. Hairston started in three of 11 regular-season games in his rookie campaign and accumulated 18 tackles (14 solo) and five pass defenses (two interceptions).

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Unlikely to return Sunday
Hairston (ankle) is doubtful to return to Sunday's contest against the Jets.
Hairston sustained an ankle injury in the second half, and he's now unlikely to return to action in Week 18. In his absence, Christian Benford and Tre'Davious White will continue to operate as the team's primary options at cornerback versus New York.

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Getting start Sunday
Hairston will be one of Buffalo's starting cornerbacks in Week 15 versus New England as a result of Christian Benford missing the game due to a toe injury, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
This will be Hairston's second career start -- he previously got the nod in Week 10 against Miami, when he logged one tackle and an interception while Benford was sidelined due to a groin issue. The rookie has, however, gotten plenty of reps since making his NFL debut in Week 8, as he has typically logged a defensive snap share of around 50 percent. The conditions for Sunday's contest include frigid temperatures and possible snow, so it wouldn't be surprising if both squads go to the run game more often than usual.

Bills' Maxwell Hairston: Cleared to play Week 13
Hairston (concussion) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Hairston was concussed in last Thursday night's loss to the Texans, but the added rest allowed him to clear the concussion protocol. The first-round rookie cornerback has appeared in five games this season, producing three tackles (two solo) and three pass breakups, including a pair of interceptions, across 175 defensive snaps.
