2025 NFL Draft Day 2: Teams That Have Missed the Mark So Far

Player Outlook
Franklin, a second-year receiver, will compete for playing time this preseason in Denver. It took Franklin a little while to step into even a decent role with the Broncos last season, and once he did he sparingly made the kinds of plays Fantasy managers love. But an unprompted mention by coach Sean Payton in late May suggests there could be more in store for Franklin, who does offer good speed for the Broncos. He'll need to take a big step forward in order to get on the Fantasy radar. Until then, don't expect him to be part of Fantasy rosters.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Pair of grabs in Saturday's victory

Franklin secured both targets for five yards in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon. Franklin's unremarkable finish to preseason is largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of his 2025 outlook, as the Oregon product is set to open the season as the No. 3 receiver. Franklin recorded a pair of touchdown catches among his four grabs in last Saturday's preseason win over the Cardinals, which, when coupled with what was by all accounts an impressive training camp, leaves him poised for a fast start to his second campaign.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Two TDs in preseason win

Franklin brought in four of five targets for 67 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos' 27-7 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night. Franklin shared the team lead in receptions and targets while checking in as the runner-up in receiving yards. However, the second-year wideout was the only Broncos pass catcher to get into the end zone, recording 27- and 16-yard touchdown grabs from Jarrett Stidham in the first and second quarters, respectively. Franklin put together an impressive training camp following an underwhelming 2024 rookie campaign, and the Oregon product could well be poised for an incremental boost in Year 2 while working with college teammate Bo Nix as his quarterback.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Making strong impression in camp

Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Friday that Franklin is "having a good camp," Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Payton similarly praised Franklin during mandatory minicamp in June, saying that the second-year wideout looked "extremely explosive." DiLalla notes that Franklin has worked both at the Z receiver and in the slot during training camp, which could factor into his allotted snap count once the regular season begins. Courtland Sutton is locked in as Denver's No. 1 receiver, but behind him, Franklin is among a group vying for position in the pecking order. Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele and rookie third-round pick Pat Bryant are also among those aiming for a prominent role.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Looking good this spring

Broncos coach Sean Payton said Thursday that Franklin had a good spring, looking "extremely explosive" and "about five pounds heavier," Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Franklin had 2,274 receiving yards and 23 TDs over his final two seasons at Oregon, but he fell to the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after checking in at just 172 pounds at the combine -- an unheard of weight for a 6-foot-2 wide receiver in the NFL. He's still among the thinnest players at his position, and coming off a low-impact rookie year with 263 yards on 53 targets, but Franklin may nonetheless be part of the competition this summer for Denver's Nos. 2 and 3 WR spots behind top target Courtland Sutton. The competition includes Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele and rookie third-round pick Pat Bryant.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Scores two touchdowns in 2024

Franklin finished the 2024 regular season with 28 receptions on 53 targets for 263 yards and two touchdowns. Franklin's rookie campaign was relatively quiet, as the Oregon product played just 365 offensive snaps across the 16 games he appeared in. Filling the No. 4 receiver role, the 21-year-old played over 50 percent of snaps in a contest just once this season. Franklin's limited role and lack of experience certainly capped his potential this season, but his continued development should be a positive sign for the fourth-round pick. Additionally, quarterback Bo Nix has played well as a rookie and should continue to develop alongside Franklin, his college teammate. With more experience, Franklin could see his role increase in 2025 as a member of Denver's young receiving corps.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Targeted twice against Bengals

Franklin secured one of two targets for minus-1 yard in Saturday's 30-24 overtime loss to the Bengals. Franklin was a complete non-factor in Saturday's contest, with his one catch and 33 percent snap share counting for his lowest totals in each category since Week 10. The rookie wideout is not being utilized consistently enough to be trusted for fantasy purposes, though he should continue to build upon his chemistry with college teammate Bo Nix and develop a larger role in the Broncos' offense going forward. Nevertheless, Franklin should remain off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 18 matchup against Kansas City.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Reels in two passes

Franklin caught one of three targets for 25 yards in Thursday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers. Franklin recorded just two receptions for the fifth straight game, bringing him to 25 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns on the season. The rookie played 26 of the Broncos' 64 offensive snaps Thursday, behind fellow receivers Courtland Sutton (58), Devaughn Vele (36) and Marvin Mims (30). Franklin will continue to be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes while competing for targets as Denver's No. 4 wideout. Next up for the Broncos is a matchup against the Bengals in Week 17.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Two catches against Colts

Franklin caught two of five targets for nine yards in Sunday's 31-13 win over the Colts. Operating as Denver's No. 3 wide receiver, Franklin played 29 of the Broncos' 63 offensive snaps behind Courtland Sutton (57) and Devaughn Vele (38). Sunday's contest marked the fourth straight game in which the rookie wideout recorded two grabs. With that said, his limited involvement has not led to much statistical production for the Oregon product. Franklin should remain off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Chargers.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Finds end zone in Week 11

Franklin caught both of his targets for 15 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-6 win over the Falcons. Franklin's touchdown against Atlanta was his second of the season, as the rookie wideout continues to play in a rotational role in the Broncos' passing offense. The Oregon product played 44 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps Sunday, and he's played over 50 percent of snaps in just one of his 10 games this season. Though Franklin's development thus far has been a positive sign for his future NFL success, his limited usage makes him unreliable for fantasy purposes. The Broncos head to Las Vegas for a matchup with the Raiders in Week 12.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: One grab in Week 9

Franklin caught one of four targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Ravens. Franklin finished Sunday's game third in targets behind fellow wideouts Courtland Sutton (10) and Lil'Jordan Humphrey (five). Unfortunately, the rookie receiver was only able to reel in one pass from quarterback Bo Nix. Though Nix and Franklin have begun to develop their chemistry in the NFL after playing together at Oregon, the pair will likely continue to be inconsistent as the Broncos' offense goes through growing pains during the 2024 campaign. Franklin will look to bounce back in Week 10, albeit in a tough matchup against the division-rival Chiefs.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Paces pass catchers Thursday

Franklin secured five of six targets for 50 yards in the Broncos' 33-10 win over the Saints on Thursday night. Franklin led the Broncos across the board in receiving stats, setting the pace in receptions, receiving yards and targets. The rookie also tallied a team-high 30-yard catch, and all of his metrics Thursday qualified as season/career highs. The one-time college teammate of Bo Nix appears to be upping his NFL chemistry with the rookie signal-caller heading into a favorable Week 8 home matchup against the Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 27.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Finds end zone in loss

Franklin caught two of three targets for 31 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Chargers. He added one rush for five yards. Franklin's trip to the end zone was the first of his young career while the rookie saw a major uptick in his usage in Week 6. The wideout played 65 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps Sunday after averaging a roughly 22 percent snap share in his first four games. Franklin is a talented wideout who should continue to develop within the Broncos' passing attack, especially with an existing connection with his college quarterback Bo Nix at the helm in Denver. The 21-year-old will look to build off his solid performance against the Chargers when the Broncos visit the Saints in Week 7.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Minimal involvement against Raiders

Franklin caught one of his two targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 34-18 win over the Raiders. Franklin played just 11 of the Broncos' 63 offensive snaps Sunday, the fewest of any Denver wide receiver. Despite his minimal usage, the rookie hit a season-high for receiving yards (20) on his one catch against the Raiders. It's possible Franklin's role could grow within Denver's offense as the season progresses while his college teammate and current quarterback Bo Nix continues to develop this season. Until then, the former Oregon wideout will be off the fantasy radar. The Broncos are set to host the Chargers in Week 6.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Four targets in win

Franklin secured two of his four targets for minus-two yards in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Jets. Though Franklin has seen his snap share increase each week, the rookie wideout continues to struggle to get things going as part of a floundering Denver offense. The Oregon product currently sits fourth on the wide receiver depth chart behind Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds and Lil'Jordan Humphrey, so he should continue to see limited opportunities barring injuries. Franklin should not be trusted for fantasy purposes in Week 5 when the Broncos host the Raiders.

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Two touches in win

Franklin caught his lone target for 21 yards and carried once for nine yards in Sunday's 38-12 preseason win over the Cardinals. Franklin finally found his way onto the stat sheet in Sunday's preseason finale, handling his first two touches while playing 50 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps in the contest. The rookie wideout is a work in progress, but in Denver, he finds himself in a solid situation that could be conducive to his development. Bo Nix, his college quarterback, was named the starter ahead of Week 1, so the history the two have with one another could bode well for the 6-foot-3, 180-pound receiver. In addition, it appears the Broncos will cut ties with veteran wideout Tim Patrick ahead of the 2024 campaign, according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post. With final roster cuts upcoming, Franklin is positioned to make the 53-man roster in a depth role behind Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds and Marvin Mims.
