  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Back in action

Omenihu (groin/ankle) is active for Sunday night's contest against the Eagles.

Omenihu will return to action in Week 8 after missing two straight contests with a pair of groin and ankle injuries. The 29-year-old will be back in a prominent role on the defensive line versus Philadelphia.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Out another week

Omenihu (groin/ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's Week 6 matchup against San Francisco, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.

This will be Omehihu's second straight absence after he was injured early against Indianapolis in Week 4. The Commanders are on bye next week, so the veteran defensive end will look to return in Week 8 against Philadelphia. Javon Kinlaw (ankle/knee) is questionable for Monday's contest, so Washington may need to lean more on Shy Tuttle and/or Deatrich Wise.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Ruled out for Week 5

Omenihu (groin/ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Omenihu couldn't practice all week due to groin and ankle injuries, which he picked up against the Colts in Week 4. Shy Tuttle will be the Commanders' top reserve option at defensive end behind Tim Settle and Javon Kinlaw in the absence of Omenihu, whose next chance to play is Week 6 against the 49ers on Monday, Oct. 19.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Doesn't practice again Thursday

Omenihu (groin/ankle) did not practice Thursday, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.

Omenihu suffered a groin injury during Sunday's loss to the Colts. However, he seemingly picked up an ankle injury as well, increasing his odds of missing the divisional clash with the Giants. If Omenihu isn't out there in Week 5, Shy Tuttle is in line for more snaps.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Scheduled for imaging

Omenihu, who suffered a groin injury during a loss to the Colts on Sunday, is slated to undergo imaging, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.

Omenihu was hurt late in the first quarter Sunday and didn't end up returning. He'll get tests done to determine the severity of his injury. The Commanders may turn to Shy Tuttle for more defensive snaps if Omenihu needs to miss additional time.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Won't return Sunday

Omenihu (groin) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's Week 4 matchup versus the Colts in London, England, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.

Omenihu was injured in the first quarter and went to the locker room to be evaluated. He's since been ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Shy Tuttle may be asked to play more defensive snaps given Omenihu's absence.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Departs Sunday with groin injury

Omenihu is listed as questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Colts in London due to a groin injury.

  • Commanders' Charles Omenihu: Inks deal with Washington

Omenihu and the Commanders agreed on a one-year, $4 million contract Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

Omenihu will join a Washington defense that has undergone quite the facelift this offseason. The 28-year-old played in all 17 regular-season games with Kansas City in 2025, matching his career-high 28 total tackles (15 solo), including 3.5 sacks. Now with the Commanders, Omenihu will be a part of the team's pass rush along with fellow newcomers Odafe Oweh and K'Lavon Chaisson and holdover Dorance Armstrong.

  • Chiefs' Charles Omenihu: Productive on one-year deal

Omenihu finished the 2025 season with 28 tackles (15 solo), including 3.5 sacks, over 17 games.

Omenihu signed a one-year deal to stay in Kansas City, a decision that resulted in an increase in production that will be useful in him negotiating his next contract. As a rotational defensive end behind starters George Karlaftis and Mike Danna, he logged 2.0 more sacks than in the 2024 regular season and 22 more tackles. He did so while playing the same number of games as he had in the past two regular seasons combined, proving that the 28-year-old still has the durability to survive an NFL season. Omenihu will enter the 2026 season as a free agent, and it is unclear if he will seek another contract with Kansas City or if he will take his talents elsewhere.
