Eagles' Saquon Barkley: No preseason action
Barkley didn't see any action during the Eagles' three-game preseason slate.
At this point in his standout career, Barkley doesn't require exhibition reps to be his usual self once the games begin to count, so it's understandable that coach Nick Sirianni opted to rest Philadelphia's No. 1 RB and other key starters. After reeling off 2,005 rushing yards in 2024 and winning a Super Bowl, Barkley took a step back last season, but he still notched 1,413 yards from scrimmage and nine total TDs on 317 touches in 16 regular-season games. Sirianni has passed off play-calling duties to new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, so it remains to be seen how effective Barkley will be in the new scheme.

Eagles' Saquon Barkley: Not suited up Saturday
Barkley isn't in uniform for Saturday's preseason game at Baltimore, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.
WRs DeVonta Smith (hamstring), Makai Lemon (hamstring) and Johnny Wilson also aren't dressed for the preseason opener, but it appears that most of the rest of the Eagles' skill-position talents may be available Saturday. When it comes to the backfield, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley, Carson Steele and Ja'Quinden Jackson currently are the healthy options. Barkley is coming off a subpar (for him) 2025 campaign in which he churned out 1,413 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns on 317 touches in 16 regular-season games.

Eagles' Saquon Barkley: Wishes for more plays under center
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports that Barkley has been advocating for more plays to be run under center.
Barkley's most productive campaign on the ground came in 2024, his first year with the Eagles, when he turned 345 carries into 2,005 yards (5.8 YPC) and 13 touchdowns across 16 regular-season games. However, he saw his output dip significantly last year, averaging 4.1 yards per carry for 1,140 yards and seven scores in 16 regular-season contests. Hvaing the offense run from under center more often rather than out of a shotgun formation would allow the veteran running back to survey the defense more clearly and set up big gains. He logged only seven runs of 20-plus yards and three runs of 40-plus yards last year, compared to 17 runs of 20-plus yards and seven runs of 40-plus yards in 2024.
