Broncos' Hakeem Butler: Joining Broncos after UFL run
Butler agreed to a contract with the Broncos on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Denver will bring the 30-year-old pass catcher aboard after he recently concluded a stellar run with the UFL's St. Louis Battlehawks. Butler took home UFL Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second time in three seasons after compiling a league-high 641 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 29 receptions over nine games in 2026. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 242 pounds, Butler represents a big red-zone target who could serve in a hybrid role at receiver and tight end if he's able to secure a spot on Denver's 53-man roster coming out of the preseason. Since entering the professional ranks as a 2019 fourth-round pick of the Cardinals, Butler has appeared in just two NFL games, both of which came with the Eagles in 2020.

Butler will be in search of a new team after moving on from what may have been a depth or practice-squad role. He has not yet recorded a catch in the NFL, though he won the Offensive Player of the Year award in the UFL this spring.

Hakeem Butler: Reaches injury settlement
The Steelers waived Butler (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Butler originally reverted to the Steelers' IR after going unclaimed off waivers. The nature of his injury is still unclear, but he will now be free to play again this year once he is back to full health. Since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the pass catcher has suited up for only two regular-season games, both in 2020.

Butler (undisclosed) was waived/injured by the Steelers on Monday, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
It's not clear at this time what specific injury Butler is dealing with. If he goes unclaimed off waivers, then he'll revert to the Steelers' injured reserve and be in line to miss the entire 2023 season, barring an injury settlement. The last time he suited up for a regular-season game was in 2020 with the Eagles.
