Maddox spent last season with the Lions, and in 2026 he figures to bolster the team's depth at safety. The veteran began the 2025 campaign in a reserve role but finished the year as a starter due to injury attrition at the position. With starting strong safety Brian Branch in recovery mode from a torn Achilles that he suffered in early December, Maddox could be a fantasy-relevant option in IDP formats to begin 2026.

Coach Dan Campbell said Maddox (hamstring) will not return prior to the Lions' Week 8 bye, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
Maddox will miss next Monday night's date with the Bucs, and Detroit will then head into its bye week. The 29-year-old cornerback was injured in the Lions' Week 5 win over the Bengals. He's played 43 snaps apiece on defense and special teams through five appearances this season.

Maddox popped up on Thursday's practice report as a limited participant due to a hamstring injury, which was severe enough for him to not practice Friday. That's a trend in the wrong direction for the veteran corner, but his official status may not be known until approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. Maddox has provided rotational help in the secondary while also contributing on special teams, but his absence would hurt a Lions secondary that is already without Terrion Arnold (shoulder) and could be missing Brian Branch (ankle) and Kerby Joseph (knee).
