Xavier Grimble: Cut from practice squad
The Ravens cut Grimble from the practice squad Friday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
This leaves just Luke Willson and Sean Culkin as the practice squad tight ends, and both players have a chance to be called up following news that Nick Boyle (knee) is done for the year. Grimble will seek another practice squad role elsewhere. He hasn't played an NFL game since Week 3 of 2019.

Xavier Grimble: Recovers from injury
Grimble (undisclosed) was restored to the Ravens' practice squad from the injured list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Grimble was moved to the practice squad injured list in late September due to the unspecified injury, but he's now back on Baltimore's practice squad after taking the past six weeks to recover. Grimble appeared in three games for the Steelers last year and caught one pass for three yards.

Colts' Xavier Grimble: Shakes off injury
Grimble (undisclosed) returned to practice Friday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Grimble missed over a week of practice with this mystery injury, but he's ready to compete for a depth role again. The top two tight-end spots are locked up between Jack Doyle and Trey Burton, so Grimble will compete with Mo Alie-Cox for the No. 3 role in Indianapolis.

Colts' Xavier Grimble: Sits out practice Tuesday
Grimble (undisclosed) didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Grimble has served in a run-blocking role since he entered the league in 2016. He tried out with the Colts last November and didn't make the team, so he's far from a lock to make the team in 2020.

Colts' Xavier Grimble: Signs with Colts
Grimble signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on Monday.
Grimble had a workout with the Colts in mid-November but never actually ended up signing with the team, but he'll now be with Indianapolis for the beginning of offseason work. The 27-year-old caught 23 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns in 47 games with the Steelers before being released off injured reserve in October.

Steelers' Xavier Grimble: Headed to IR
Grimble (calf) has been placed on IR.
Grimble, who logged one catch for three yards over Pittsburgh's first three games, suffered a calf injury this past Sunday against the 49ers. It's a severe enough issue for him to land on IR, a move made in conjunction with the team's acquisition of fellow tight end Nick Vannett.

Steelers' Xavier Grimble: Status for Week 4 murky
Coach Mike Tomlin said Wednesday he considers Grimble "questionable" for Monday's game against the Bengals, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Grimble appears to be managing an undisclosed injury, on which Thursday's first official injury report of the week should shed some light. With Vance McDonald (shoulder) also nursing an injury, it's possible Grimble could receive increased snaps versus Cincinnati if he's able to get healthy.

Steelers' Xavier Grimble: First catch this season
Grimble caught one of two targets for three yards in Sunday's 24-20 loss to San Francisco.
The backup tight end has only seen four targets through three games but Vance McDonald (shoulder) was forced from the game, which could result in a larger role for Grimble in Week 4 against the Bengals.

Steelers' Xavier Grimble: Catchless in loss
Grimble was targeted during Sunday's 28-26 loss to Seattle but did not record a catch.
With Jesse James now in Detroit, 2019 was supposed to be an opportunity for Grimble to take a step in his development. It hasn't worked out that way, with just one target behind starter Vance McDonald on a suddenly 0-2 Steelers squad. Grimble's opportunity to grow in his new TE2 role took a hit with Ben Roethlisberger's season-ending elbow surgery. Now the passing attack will rely on sophomore Mason Rudolph, who struggled but had his moments in relief Sunday.

Steelers' Xavier Grimble: Set back by ugly drop
Grimble got the start and caught one of three targets for 13 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Kansas City.
Pittsburgh opened in a two-TE formation with both Grimble and Vance McDonald on the field. There's no question the latter will serve as the team's top pass catcher at tight end, but that also was the case last season when Jesse James had 39 targets and 573 snaps. Of course, there's no guarantee Grimble takes all of the vacated workload, as the Steelers instead could give McDonald more run or use rookie Zach Gentry in a reserve role. In any case, Grimble didn't help his cause Saturday night, with his one catch overshadowed by a terrible drop of a perfect pass over the middle.

Steelers' Xavier Grimble: Exits practice with injury
Grimble sustained an undisclosed injury during Monday's practice, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Grimble was reportedly examined by trainers near the end of Monday's practice. The 26-year-old tight end's injury remains undisclosed. If Grimble were to remain sidelined for a significant amount of time, Zach Gentry and Kevin Rader could see an uptick in reps.
