Engram failed to secure any of his three targets in Sunday's 18-15 win over the Texans.
Engram was unable to get anything going in Week 9, as he played second fiddle to fellow tight end Adam Trautman against the Texans. The 31-year-old Engram played 51 percent of Denver's offensive snaps Sunday, reaching above a 50 percent snap share for just the second time this season. Even so, it was Trautman who saw the majority of work at tight end, playing 73 percent of snaps and catching both of his targets for 25 yards. The Denver tight end position is seemingly one to avoid for fantasy purposes, as neither Engram nor Trautman are reliable options, and those hoping Engram could have a strong year in head coach Sean Payton's system have likely already moved on. The veteran will remain difficult to trust when the Broncos host the Raiders in Week 10.

He's been more involved from Bo Nix recently, and that should continue in Week 8 against Dallas. But he failed to take advantage of a great matchup in Week 8 against Dallas with just 7.6 PPR points, and now he has a difficult task at Houston in Week 9. The Texans are No. 5 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends, and only two guys have scored double digits in PPR points against Houston, which were Brenton Strange in Week 3 and George Kittle in Week 8. I would only consider Engram an option in deeper leagues in Week 9.

Engram led Denver in targets, receptions and yardage in an odd victory that saw No. 1 WR Courtland Sutton finish with just one reception. The 30-year-old Engram also recorded his first rushing attempt of the season, something we haven't seen consistently from the tight end since his early years as a member of the New York Giants. Sunday's solid showing overseas comes on the heels of the veteran tight end's first touchdown of the year against the Eagles last week. With just four catches (on six targets) for 33 yards in his first two games with the Broncos, the early returns on Engram aren't great, but assuming his back injury is no longer an issue, he's a player capable of picking up the pace, as soon as Monday. With that in mind, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com relays that Engram indicated Friday that he feels "great" ahead of Week 4 action, while, for his part, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi told Stevens that he believes Engram will "be getting going here real soon."

Payton declined to comment on the nature of Engram's injury. The veteran tight end was forced out early during Denver's win over the Titans in Week 1 due to a calf injury, but he was able to gain full clearance in time to return Week 2 against the Colts. Engram has, however, failed to play 50 percent in either of the Broncos' two games so far this season, and he's totaled just two catches for 33 yards on four targets thus far. Even if Engram manages to gain full clearance in time for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, fantasy managers may want to search elsewhere for options at the tight end position.
