Christian Hackenberg: Shifting to baseball
Hackenberg is attempting to begin a career in professional baseball, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
The 2016 second-round pick by the Jets hasn't been on an NFL roster since August 2018, and he never played a snap during his time with New York or the Raiders. Hackenberg also played in the Alliance of American Football before it was shuttered, but he was benched after three starts. He's unlikely to make a return to football at this point, but he'll attempt to continue his athletic career on the diamond.

Christian Hackenberg: Benched in AAF
Hackenberg has been benched in favor of Zach Mettenberger after making three starts for the Memphis Express in the Alliance of American Football, Dylan Rubino of AAF.com reports.
Hackenberg hoped a change in throwing mechanics would help salvage his football career, but his work with a quarterbacks coach hasn't fixed an inability to read defenses and stay calm under pressure. The Jets' 2016 second-round pick went 0-3 as a starter for Memphis, completing 51.6 percent of his passes for 4.5 yards per attempt, with no touchdowns and three interceptions. Mettenberger threw for two touchdowns after he replaced Hackenberg in the second half of Saturday's 21-17 loss to the Orlando Apollos. It's hard to imagine Hackenberg drawing any attention from the NFL in 2019.

Christian Hackenberg: Alters throwing mechanics
Hackenberg recently explained that his throwing mechanics are improving thanks to coaching from his AAF quarterbacks coach, John Luciew of PennLive.com reports.
The 2016 second-round pariah has been given plenty of chances in the NFL, failing to stick with the Jets, Raiders, Eagles and Bengals. Having spent the last few months with the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football, Hackenberg discovered a mechanical flaw in his throwing motion that was affecting his accuracy. It'll be interesting to see if any NFL teams come calling this offseason to learn if the Penn State product has indeed turned a corner in his development.

Christian Hackenberg: Selected in AAF draft
Hackenberg was among the quarterbacks selected in Tuesday's Alliance of Amercian Football draft, Kevin Seifert of ESPN reports.
Hackenberg was released from the Bengals' practice squad in early November, but he's found a new home in the newly formed league. He was selected in the second round of Tuesday's quarterback draft and will be slated to compete with the likes of Troy Cook, Zach Mettenberger and Brandon Silvers. Should he win the starting job, Hackenberg could get an opportunity to prove to NFL scouts that he's worthy of a roster spot come 2019.

Hackenberg was released from the Bengal's practice squad Monday.
Hackenberg joined Cincinnati's practice squad during the beginning of the 2018 regular season, but was ultimately unable to stick with the unit. The 2016 second-round pick will look to earn a depth role elsewhere in the league.
