Rams' Aaron Donald: Expects to play Monday
Donald told Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com on Friday, "That's the plan," when asked if he'll play Monday against the Giants.
Donald made his long-awaited return to the Rams on Aug. 30, but the Rams took advantage of a roster exemption from the NFL and didn't have him travel with the team for a Week 1 matchup with the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. The exemption was lifted on Sept. 11, and he hasn't been included on L.A.'s Week 2 injury report, indicating that he's in the clear to make his first appearance since the 2023 campaign. Donald's comment Friday confirms that he expects to play.

Rams' Aaron Donald: Realistic chance to play in Week 2
Donald has a "very, very realistic chance" to play versus the Giants in Week 2, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Donald isn't a lock to play against New York on Monday night, but it appears there is a good chance the 35-year-old will suit up for his first NFL game since January 2024. The future Hall of Famer has appeared in 154 regular-season games during his career, accumulating 542 total tackles, 111.0 sacks, 24 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. Donald is also a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, eight-time All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowler, among other accomplishments.

Rams' Aaron Donald: Status TBD for Week 2
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Donald's availability for Week 2 against the Giants is still to be determined, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
"We haven't decided that yet," McVay said. "He's going to continue to work his process, and we'll see what that looks like." Donald didn't travel with the Rams to Australia for last week's beatdown at the hands of the 49ers, and Los Angeles now will be without Myles Garrett (knee surgery) for at least the next month. The Rams weren't able to put any pressure on Brock Purdy in Week 1, so getting Donald in the fold can only help while Garrett recovers.

Rams' Aaron Donald: Has roster exemption lifted
Donald had his roster exemption lifted by the NFL on Friday, per the league's transaction log.
After Donald came out of retirement and signed with the Rams on Aug. 30, the NFL granted the team a two-game roster exemption for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year. While he didn't travel with the team for a Week 1 matchup against the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, he now will be eligible to make his first appearance since the 2023 season on Monday, Sept. 21, against the Giants.

Rams' Aaron Donald: Not playing in opener in Australia
Head coach Sean McVay said that Donald won't travel to Melbourne, Australia and will be inactive Thursday for the Rams' season opener versus the 49ers, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
After officially re-signing with the franchise on a one-year, $20 million deal Aug. 30, Donald will be given time to regain full conditioning as he makes his return from a two-year retirement. Due to the international scheduling, the Rams will benefit from an extended break before their Week 2 matchup with the Giants in a Monday night game Sept. 21. Donald has strong odds of being available for that contest in what would mark the star defensive tackle's first NFL action since Jan. 14, 2024.

Rams' Aaron Donald: Vague about status for season opener
Donald stated only "we're taking it day by day" when asked Monday if he'll travel to Australia and/or play in the Rams' season opener against San Francisco on Thursday, Vincent Bonsignore of the California Post reports.
Previous reports indicated that Donald would at least travel to Australia, but it's uncertain if that's still the case. Donald didn't officially unretire until Aug. 30, so he may not be fully ready to return to NFL action after logging his most recent snap during the 2023 season. Even if he does travel and suit up, Donald may be given a reduced workload as he eases his way back from a lengthy hiatus.
