Steelers' Chris Boswell: Won't play Saturday
Boswell will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jaguars while seeking a contract extension, Joe Rutter of TribLive.com reports.
Boswell is in the third year of his four-year, $20 million contract, and he is due to make $3.12 million and $3.22 million in 2025 and 2026, respectively. He has been one of the most accurate kickers since entering the NFL in 2015 and has connected on 90 percent or more of his field-goal attempts in five of the last six seasons. In 17 regular-season games in 2024, Boswell made a career-high 41 field goals (on 44 attempts, including 13-for-15 from 50-plus yards) while converting all 35 of his extra-point tries. Boswell's absence during practice has opened the door for undrafted rookie Ben Sauls to handle kicking duties during special-teams periods in practice, and the latter will serve as the Steelers' starting kicker Saturday.

Steelers' Chris Boswell: Concludes career-best season
Boswell converted 41 of 44 field-goal attempts while making all 35 of his extra-point tries over 17 regular-season appearances with the Steelers in 2024.
Boswell was a bright spot for the Steelers during the 2024 campaign, as he set career-best marks in field goals made and makes from 50-plus yards while staying healthy for a second consecutive season. The 33-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract, and the Steelers are unlikely to be motivated to seek out another option ahead of the 2025 season given his production this year.

Steelers' Chris Boswell: Ready to face Baltimore
Boswell (illness) didn't practice Thursday but doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's road wild-card matchup against Baltimore, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Boswell has missed back-to-back practices due to an illness, but that won't impact his availability for Saturday's AFC wild-card round clash. The veteran is coming off an impressive regular season, in which he managed a 93 percent conversion rate while making a career-high 41 field goals (on 44 attempts).

Boswell did not practice Wednesday due to an illness, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Boswell still has a couple of days to shake off the illness before Saturday's wild-card game against the Ravens. With the Steelers having not yet added other kicker to the active roster or practice squad, the team seemingly isn't too concerned about Boswell's availability for the playoff opener. Boswell was one of the top kickers in the NFL during the regular season, converting on 41 of 44 field-goal attempts, including a 13-for-15 success rate from 50-plus yards.
