Ronnie Hillman: Released by Cowboys
Hillman was officially cut by the Cowboys on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Given the Cowboys' depth at the running back position, it would have taken an impressive camp from Hillman for him to latch on with the team beyond the preseason. That didn't happen, so he's now free to find a job with another club.

Cowboys' Ronnie Hillman: Quiet against Rams
Hillman had one carry for no gain and two catches for 15 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.
Hillman served as the No. 4 running back, playing much of the fourth quarter. He seems to be competing with Rod Smith for the third spot on the depth chart while Ezekiel Elliott is suspended. Smith also had a quiet night, gaining two yards on one carry and five yards on one reception. With Elliott appealing his suspension, there's no guarantee either Hillman or Smith makes the Week 1 roster.

Cowboys' Ronnie Hillman: Struggles in Dallas debut
Hillman gained five yards on six carries and didn't draw any targets in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against Arizona.
In addition to the poor stat line, Hillman worked behind Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris and Rod Smith, suggesting the Cowboys' recent addition is a long shot to make the roster. While he still has more time to prove himself during camp and the preseason, Hillman seems to be No. 5 in the backfield pecking order right now.

Ronnie Hillman: Trying out for Cowboys
The Cowboys brought Hillman in for a workout this week, ESPN's Field Yates reports.
Along with Hillman, the Cowboys gave former Jaguars running back Denard Robinson a tryout too as it seems Dallas management is seriously bracing for the possibility of an Ezekiel Elliott suspension. A 2012 third-round pick of the Broncos, Hillman split time last season with the Chargers and Vikings, finishing the year with 131 rushing yards on 41 carries (3.19 YPC).
