While he's no Earl Thomas, the former Seahawk does have experience with secondary coach Kris Richard's system, which makes Johnson valuable as a fill-in for the injured Xavier Woods (hamstring). Johnson is a seventh-year veteran who'll compete for a depth role behind starting safeties Tashaun Gipson and Barry Church. He takes the place of James Sample, who was released Sunday.
