Top Anderson Varejao News

  • Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao: Inks second 10-day deal

Varejao signed a second 10-day contract with the Cavaliers on Friday, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

It will effectively be a three-day deal, with the forward remaining in Cleveland for the final three days of the regular season. Varejao has averaged 2.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 7.8 minutes over four games.

  • Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao: Plays seven minutes in debut

Varejao made his season debut for the Cavaliers in Wednesday's 141-105 loss to the Trail Blazers, posting one point (0-4 FG, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, one assist and one block in seven minutes.

It was a whirlwind seven minutes for the veteran, who made his return to the Cavaliers after last playing in the NBA in 2016-17. A fan favorite in Cleveland, Varejao was brought in to provide some veteran leadership, but he's very unlikely to make much of an impact over the team's final six regular-season games. Varejao didn't check into Wednesday's game until late in the fourth quarter, when the Cavs were trailing by 27 points.

  • Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao: Available Wednesday

Varejao is expected to make his season debut Wednesday against the Trail Blazers, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Varejao will be available to play in Wednesday's game after signing a "celebratory" 10-day contract. This will be the center's first game back in the league since the 2016-17 season, where he played for the Warriors. Expect the 38-year-old to receive limited minutes in his debut.

  • Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao: Unlikely to play Tuesday

Varejao, who officially signed a 10-day contract with the Cavaliers, is unlikely to be available for Tuesday's game against the Suns while he works his way into playing shape.

Considering that Varejao hasn't played in the NBA since the 2016-17 season and hasn't played anywhere professionally since 2018-19, the 38-year-old will need some time to get fully conditioned. Since Cleveland will have seven players out Tuesday due to injuries, Varejao will still be active for the contest, but he's unlikely to leave the bench outside of an emergency. Even once the Cavaliers are comfortable with his conditioning, Varejao isn't expected to be a regular part of head coach J.B. Bickerstaff's rotation.

  • Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao: Officially out Tuesday

Varejao (recently signed) is out for Tuesday's game against the Suns, Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

As expected, the veteran will not debut Tuesday, as he needs some more time to get up to speed. His next chance to play arrives Wednesday against the Trail Blazers.

  • Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao: Plans to sign with Cavaliers

Varejao plans to sign with the Cavaliers for the remainder of the season, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Varejao hasn't played in the NBA since he played 14 games for the Warriors during the 2016-17 season. The 38-year-old most recently played in Brazil, but he'll now return to the Cavaliers after spending the first 12 years of his career with the team. He's unlikely to play a significant role for Cleveland late in the 2020-21 campaign.

  • Anderson Varejao: Signs with Brazilian squad

Varejao has agreed to terms with Flamengo of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), Sportando.com reports.

Varejao most recently played during the 2016-17 campaign with the Warriors, where he appeared in 14 tilts and averaged 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds across 6.6 minutes per game. The 35-year-old has opted to sign a profession deal in Brazil, where he was born. It seems highly unlikely at this point that he makes an NBA return.
