Robinson (rest) is expected to play Tuesday versus Detroit.
Mitchell got the night off in Friday's 125-120 preseason overtime win over Philadelphia but is anticipated to suit up Tuesday against the Pistons to kick off the 2026-27 campaign. The 28-year-old, who signed with the Celtics during the offseason, spent his entire career with the Knicks since entering the NBA in 2018, averaging 7.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks over 23.4 minutes per contest in 397 regular-season games, including 215 starts. Mitchell has had issues staying healthy, and he's also not the most consistent offensive contributor. However, he's as good as it gets as a rebounder and shot-blocker.

Robinson (rest) won't play in Friday's preseason finale against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Robinson and the rest of Boston's regulars won't play in the final exhibition but should be good to go for Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Pistons. Robinson produced 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, three blocks and an assist over 17 minutes in Wednesday's 114-93 preseason win over the Hornets.

The longtime Knick got the start at center while Neemias Queta and Luka Garza both came off the bench, but it was Queta (24 minutes) who ended up seeing more court time on the night. How the Celtics split the center workload among the three will be a key storyline as the season begins, but Robinson likely won't see a heavy load as his new team tries to keep him healthy. Over 60 regular-season games in 2025-26, the most he'd played since 2021-22, as part of New York's title run, the 28-year-old averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 boards and 2.1 combined blocks and steals in 19.6 minutes a contest.

Robinson missed the previous preseason contest due to an undisclosed injury, but the big man will get the nod and start Saturday against a depleted 76ers team. Robinson is expected to be the defensive anchor in the Celtics' lineup when the regular season starts, but given his injury history, his workload should be monitored in the preseason.

Celtics' Mitchell Robinson: Ready for larger workload
Robinson expressed confidence Monday that he's capable of handling a more consistent workload this season after focusing on his conditioning throughout the summer, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports.
"Definitely. I feel very confident in myself," Robinson said when asked whether he could play more minutes consistently. "I've been working on my body this whole summer. Figuring things out." Robinson averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes across 60 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. Heading into training camp, he's expected to battle Neemias Queta for the starting center role.
