Jazz's Darryn Peterson: Gearing up for rookie campaign
Peterson (rest) is set to compete for a starting role during training camp in the fall.
The rookie No. 2 overall pick has Ace Bailey to overcome for the top spot at shooting guard with the Jazz. Whether he starts or comes off the bench right off the bat, Peterson is certainly primed for a significant role for Utah in 2026-27. Over five Summer League appearances, the 19-year-old stood out with averages of 23.0 points, 5.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 steals per game.

Jazz's Darryn Peterson: Inefficient in SL loss
Peterson ended with 15 points (4-16 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-5 FT), five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block over 29 minutes in Wednesday's 94-82 Summer League loss to the Spurs.
After resting Monday, Peterson returned to action Wednesday but struggled to find his shot, finishing with his lowest scoring output of the summer. In his previous four appearances between the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas portions of the Summer League, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft had scored at least 20 points in each contest. Peterson figures to play a significant role from the outset of the 2026-27 regular season.

Peterson finished with 23 points (6-18 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-8 FT), two rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks over 26 minutes during Sunday's 104-82 Las Vegas Summer League loss to the Clippers.
Peterson showcased his explosiveness with a vicious throwdown early in the game, and while he didn't have his most efficient outing, he did an excellent job drawing contact and getting to the free-throw line. He's been one of the standout performers at Summer League, elevating expectations for his already highly anticipated rookie season.

Peterson finished with 24 points (6-18 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 6-8 FT), three rebounds, three assists and one block over 30 minutes in Thursday's 92-88 Summer League loss to Washington.
Peterson was productive during the Salt Lake City Summer League. Although he kept it going on the scoring end Thursday, he was inefficient shooting the ball. Turnovers were also an issue once again, as the 2026 No. 2 overall pick committed eight on the night. It's unclear how much action Peterson will see throughout his time in Las Vegas, though it's reasonable to believe he will clean up some of those issues, especially once he adjusts to the speed of the professional level.

Peterson (rest) won't play in Tuesday's Salt Lake City Summer League game against the Thunder, Travis Green of ABC4 Utah reports.
Peterson won't suit up in the second leg of this back-to-back set after dropping a 25-point, 12-assist double-double in Monday's win over Memphis. His next opportunity to play will come against the Wizards on Thursday in the Jazz's Las Vegas Summer League opener.
