  • Angels' Brett Kerry: Hurls 5.2 relief innings Saturday

Kerry allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over 5.2 relief innings in a no-decision against Miami on Saturday. Angels starter Walbert Urena last just 2.1 frames, leaving Kerry to inherit a two-on, one-out jam in the third inning. He handled that task well and didn't allow any additional damage in the frame. The right-hander took the reins from there and finished the contest, tossing a starter-like 98 pitches (64 strikes) and generating 14 whiffs and a career-high seven punchouts. Kerry worked mostly as a starter in the minors, so the big workload wasn't new to him, but he's yet to make a start in the majors. He'll presumably be down for several days following his heavy pitch count Saturday, and the imminent return of Yusei Kikuchi (shoulder) may present a risk to Kerry's roster spot.

  • Angels' Brett Kerry: Brought back up to big club

The Angels called Kerry up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Kerry had been slated to start for Salt Lake on Saturday but was scratched from that outing. That could mean that he'll work in bulk relief Saturday, as Jose Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start for the Angels, and the team is starting Brent Suter as an opener. Kerry has made one appearance -- his MLB debut -- for the Angels this season, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk over four innings against Arizona on June 17. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, Ryan Johnson was optioned following his start Friday.

  • Angels' Brett Kerry: Sent back to Salt Lake

The Angels optioned Kerry to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Kerry made his major-league debut Wednesday in Arizona, covering four innings and yielding two runs out of the bullpen. The Angels will likely add a fresh bullpen arm later Thursday to take Kerry's spot on the roster.

  • Angels' Brett Kerry: Contract selected

The Angels selected Kerry's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. It's the first-ever major-league promotion for Kerry, who has posted a 5.92 ERA and 59:21 K:BB over 62.1 innings with Salt Lake this season. The 27-year-old will be available out of the Angels' bullpen but will be a candidate to start later this week in place of the injured Grayson Rodriguez (back), depending on his usage.
