  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Added to roster

The Red Sox recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday. Eaton will join the 26-man active roster in place of Rob Refsnyder (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The utility player previously went 6-for-24 with three stolen bases over 14 games with the big club earlier this season. The right-handed-hitting Eaton is unlikely to see many starts versus right-handed pitching, but he could have a regular spot in the lineup versus lefties. He'll serve as Boston's designated hitter and leadoff batter in Monday's matchup with Orioles southpaw Trevor Rogers.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Set to join major-league roster

The Red Sox are expected to recall Eaton from Triple-A Worcester prior to Monday's game against the Orioles, Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster reports. Boston won't announce the roster move until Monday, but the Wilyer Abreu (calf) could be a candidate to go on the injured list in a corresponding transaction. Eaton has previously seen action in 14 games with Boston this season, slashing .250/.296/.333 with three stolen bases over 27 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Heading to Worcester

The Red Sox are expected to option Eaton to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. With Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) due to return from the injured list Wednesday, Eaton will end up as the man left without a place on the active roster. The 28-year-old is 6-for-24 in the majors this year with one RBI, five runs scored and three steals through 14 games, and his defensive versatility gives him a better chance to return to the Red Sox later in the year.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Emerging as leadoff man vs. LHPs

Eaton will start at third base and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Rockies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. The right-handed-hitting Eaton will set the table for the third game in a row, with the Red Sox having opposed left-handed starters in each of those contests. Eaton was effective in the table-setting role over the Red Sox's final two contests of the weekend against the Nationals, going a combined 2-for-7 with a double, a stolen base and three runs between those games.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Steals base as pinch runner

Eaton entered Saturday's game as a pinch runner in the ninth inning and stole a base in a 3-2 loss to the Giants. Eaton ran for Wilyer Abreu in the ninth and inadvertently triggered a run to score, as a throwing error on his steal resulted in Trevor Story scampering home. This was Eaton's second appearance since being recalled from Triple-A Worcester last Sunday.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Moves up from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday. He'll absorb the roster spot vacated by Rafael Devers, who was traded to the Giants on Sunday. Eaton might remain with the big club only until Friday, when Wilyer Abreu (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Taking Devers' spot on roster

The Red Sox will recall Eaton from Triple-A Worcester prior to Monday's game in Seattle, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Eaton is taking the roster spot vacated by Rafael Devers, who was traded to the Giants on Sunday. The 28-year-old utility player was up for one day with the Red Sox earlier this month but did not make an appearance. He'll operate in a reserve role.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Returns to Worcester

The Red Sox optioned Eaton to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. Eaton was up with the big club for just one day and went unused off the bench in Sunday's 3-1 win over Atlanta. The 28-year-old infielder/outfielder will retain his spot on the 40-man roster but will head back to the minors as the Red Sox make room on the 26-man active roster for infielder Romy Gonzalez (quadriceps), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Gets call to big leagues

The Red Sox selected Eaton's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. Eaton will return to the big leagues for the first time since 2023, when he appeared in 28 games with the Royals. The 28-year-old has slashed .277/.364/.446 with five home runs and four stolen bases over 225 Triple-A plate appearances, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a short-side platoon player while he's up with Boston. Eaton will provide the Red Sox with some speed and versatility off the bench, as he's made starts at all three outfield spots as well as three infield positions (second base, third base and shortstop) this season.

  • Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Latches on with BoSox

Eaton signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday and received an invitation to spring training, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Eaton spent the entirety of last season with the Royals' Triple-A affiliate, where he slashed .252/.299/.439 with 16 homers and 59 RBI across 460 plate appearances. A career .201 hitter in the majors, Eaton is unlikely to break camp with the big-league squad and will presumably spend most of the year at Triple-A Worcester.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Outrighted to Triple-A

Eaton cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. He's no longer on the Royals' 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. Eaton went just 4-for-53 (.075 average) with two walks and 21 strikeouts in the majors during 2023.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Optioned to Triple-A

Kansas City optioned Eaton to Triple-A Omaha on Monday. Eaton has gone 4-for-53 (.075) with zero extra-base hits, two walks and 21 strikeouts across a few different stints in the majors this year.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Optioned to Triple-A

Eaton was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. Eaton has been dreadful during his time in the majors this season, managing just three hits in 52 at-bats. Samad Taylor is taking his spot on Kansas City's roster.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Notches steal

Eaton stole a base as a pinch runner in Monday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Reds. Eaton ran for MJ Melendez in the 10th inning and stole third base, but he was left there in the one-run loss. Eaton has appeared in three games since his June 9 recall from Triple-A Omaha, but he's yet to log an at-bat. The outfielder will likely continue to serve as a defensive replacement and speed option off the bench, as he's hitting just .058 with three steals and a 2:21 BB:K through 55 plate appearances.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Recalled from Triple-A

Eaton was recalled Friday from Triple-A Omaha, Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star reports. He'll take over the 26-man roster spot left vacant by Edward Olivares, who has been placed on the restricted list. Eaton has gone 3-for-52 (.058) with 21 strikeouts this season at the major-league level.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Out of lineup Sunday

Eaton is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the White Sox. Eaton will take a seat on the bench to open Sunday, and the outfielder has gone just 2-for-26 with eight strikeouts thus far in the month of May. Jackie Bradley will patrol center field and hit eighth with Eaton out of the lineup.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Receiving promotion

The Royals will recall Eaton to the majors Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. With Kyle Isbel (hamstring) headed for the injured list, Eaton will join the major-league club to maintain depth in the Royals' outfield. Eaton has just one hit over 25 at-bats in the majors this season, but he has bounced back nicely in the minors, slashing .304/.385/.522 since being optioned to Triple-A Omaha on April 24.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Sent down to Triple-A

The Royals optioned Eaton to Triple-A Omaha on Monday. Eaton is sent down to make room for Franmil Reyes (personal) on the roster after Reyes was activated from the paternity list before Monday's game against the Diamondbacks. In 25 plate appearances, Eaton picked up just one hit and registered an ugly 0:13 BB:K over 12 games.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Nabs steal in loss

Eaton went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers. It was another abysmal day at the plate for the Royals, who managed just one hit and two walks. Eaton was able to get aboard on an error in the third inning before stealing second. The 26-year-old was expected to get a chance to see some regular playing time in 2023, but he's gone 1-for-22 with two steals and a run scored over 22 plate appearances. He's also struck out 12 times, so he's likely closer to getting optioned out than he is to jumping into the starting nine on a regular basis.

  • Royals' Nate Eaton: Swipes bag off bench

Eaton went 0-for-2 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-5 extra-inning loss to the Rangers. Eaton entered as a pinch runner for Franmil Reyes in the seventh inning and promptly stole second base before he was left stranded. It's been an ugly start to the campaign for Eaton, who has just one hit and 10 strikeouts through 19 at-bats. Even with the Royals' bats ice cold to start the year, he's not doing enough to push for playing time, which will make it tough for him to tap into his plus speed.
