  • Giants' Christian Koss: Returning to bench role

Koss is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. After starting nine consecutive games, Koss now finds himself on the bench for the second straight day. He'll likely be limited to a utility role with third baseman Matt Chapman (hand) getting reinstated from the injured list Saturday.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Scores twice in loss

Koss went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a double, an RBI and a walk in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Rays. He was also hit by a pitch. Koss knocked an RBI double to right field in the second inning before coming around to score. He drew a walk in the third and scored again before adding a single in the sixth. With that, the 27-year-old infielder recorded his first multi-hit performance since being reinstated from the injured list Aug. 1. Over his last 10 games, Koss is slashing .267/.368/.533 with four RBI, three runs scored, one home run, one double and one stolen base across 19 plate appearances. With Casey Schmitt (forearm) expected to miss a couple of games and Matt Chapman (hand) landing on the 10-day injured list, Koss is likely to see a boost in playing time.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Notches third homer in win

Koss went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Pirates. Koss drew the start at second base for the first time since being reinstated from the injured list Friday. He launched a two-run homer in the third inning, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead. The 27-year-old infielder now has three home runs on the season and is slashing .262/.300/.379 with 14 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases across 113 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Activated from IL

The Giants reinstated Koss (hamstring) from the injured list Friday. Koss landed on the injured list at the beginning of July with a left hamstring strain but looked pretty good during his five-game rehab assignment, going 9-for-22 at the plate with a home run, six RBI and five runs scored. Now fully healthy, he'll reclaim a spot on the Giants' bench and replace Brett Wisely on the 26-man roster.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Kicks off Triple-A rehab Saturday

Koss (hamstring) had his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, and he went 1-for-5 with an RBI double in the team's 5-4 win over Las Vegas. Koss began his rehab stint in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Thursday but was quickly moved to Triple-A. The 27-year-old reserve infielder was placed on the 10-day injured list July 1 due to a left hamstring strain, but his quick advancement to Sacramento bodes well for his chances of being activated soon.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Starts rehab assignment in Arizona

Koss (hamstring) began his rehab stint in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Thursday, and he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the team's 7-3 win over the ACL Diamondbacks. Koss played four innings at second base in his first rehab game, tallying two singles. The 27-year-old infielder was placed on the 10-day injured list July 1 due to a left hamstring strain. Before that, Koss had been solid as a reserve infielder for the Giants, slashing .265/.305/.357 with 12 runs scored, 12 RBI, two home runs and two stolen bases across 108 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Rehab stint coming soon

Koss (hamstring) is expected to begin his minor-league rehab assignment next week, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Koss resumed baseball activities shortly before the All-Star break and is approaching a minor-league rehab stint. The infielder has been on the shelf since July 1 due to a strained right hamstring. He should be activated in late July or early August.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Placed on injured list

The Giants placed Koss on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left hamstring strain, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Koss had to make an early exit from Monday's game after injuring his hamstring during his third at-bat, and he'll now be forced to sit out at least another 10 days. With Matt Chapman (hand) and Casey Schmitt (wrist) also on the IL, Wilmer Flores is likely to see some time at third base in the near future. Meanwhile, Luis Matos will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to replenish the Giants' bench depth.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Injures hamstring Monday

Koss suffered a left hamstring injury in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks and won't be available to play Tuesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Koss tweaked his hamstring while running out a groundout during his third at-bat of the game, but he was able to stay in the contest and later hit a ground-rule double in the top of the eighth before Brett Wisely was called upon off the bench to pinch run for him. It's unclear if Koss will need to head to the injured list, as the Giants will presumably send him in for further testing before making a decision. The loss of Koss even for just one game will significantly test the Giants' depth at third base, where Casey Schmitt (wrist) recently joined Matt Chapman (hand) on the injured list. Wisely played the final inning of Monday's game at third base and will presumably be the top option to start at the position Tuesday.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Multi-hit effort in loss

Koss went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the White Sox. The 27-year-old made his sixth straight start Sunday, including his fourth straight at third base due to Casey Schmitt (wrist) being sidelined. Koss drew a walk in the second inning and subsequently stole second before coming around to score the Giants' first run. He also lined a double to left field in the fourth and added a single in the eighth. The infielder has recorded two hits in each of his last four games, slashing .533/.563/.667 with three runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base across 16 plate appearances during that span.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Lifts second homer

Koss went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Marlins. Koss took Miami starter Cal Quantrill deep in the fifth inning to pull the Giants within a run. Koss has started three of the Giants' last five games, all against right-handed pitchers, but it's too soon to tell how the playing time will shake out at second base in the short term after Tyler Fitzgerald was demoted to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Koss is in the mix, but the right-handed hitter will be competing with the left-handed-hitting Brett Wisely until Matt Chapman's (hand) return shifts Casey Schmitt over to the keystone. Koss hasn't done much in his first year in the majors, slashing .224/.272/.303 with two homers, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and a stolen base over his first 84 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Back in big leagues

The Giants recalled Koss from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 27-year-old was demoted last week but will rejoin San Francisco with Matt Chapman (hand) landing on the injured list. Koss has a .219/.275/.266 slash line over 72 plate appearances in the majors this season and will likely fill a reserve role while up with the big club.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Moves back into reserve role

Koss is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Koss had served as the Giants' primary second baseman through the first two weeks of May, but his starting opportunities are likely to be scarcer moving forward after Tyler Fitzgerald and Casey Schmitt were both activated from the injured list within the past few days. Fitzgerald will get the nod at the keystone Wednesday while Koss hits the bench for the fifth time in the last six games.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Blasts grand slam in win

Koss went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Tuesday's 10-6 win over the Diamondbacks. The Giants fell behind early, but they never looked back after Koss put them ahead with a second-inning grand slam. The infielder has gone 6-for-17 (.353 average) over his last six games, adding six RBI in that span. Overall, he's batting .241 with one home run, seven RBI, six runs scored and no stolen bases over 59 plate appearances on the season. He had nine long balls over 88 minor-league games across three levels last season, so don't expect a lot of power out of Koss. With both Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) and Casey Schmitt (oblique) on rehab assignments, Koss's time as an mainstay in the middle infield for San Francisco could soon come to an end.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Heading to bench Sunday

Koss is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. Brett Wisely will step in at the keystone while Koss takes a seat following a stretch of three consecutive starts. Since Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) joined Casey Schmitt (oblique) on the injured list May 1, Koss has started at second base in seven of the Giants' first 10 games this month while going 5-for-23 (.217) with no extra-base hits or stolen bases.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Getting steady playing time at 2B

Koss will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Rockies. Koss will occupy the keystone for the third time in four games and could get a look as the Giants' primary option at the position after Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) joined Casey Schmitt (oblique) on the injured list. After making the Giants' roster out of spring training, Koss had seen limited playing time through the end of April, logging just 26 plate appearances over the team's first 31 games. Along with Koss, Brett Wisely is also in the mix for playing time at second base while Fitzgerald and Schmitt are on the shelf.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Records first career RBI

Koss went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Rangers. Koss lined a two-out RBI single into left field to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth frame. The 27-year-old infielder owns a .333 batting average in his last five appearances after hitting .143 in his first seven. Koss has recorded a hit in each of the Giants' previous two games, receiving the starting nod at second base while Tyler Fitzgerald recovers from a chest contusion. Koss is now slashing .217/.280/.217 with four runs scored and a 1:8 BB:K across 26 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Candidate for utility role

Koss has a chance to win a utility role with the Giants this spring, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 in Saturday's spring game. "He's continuing to impress, and he hit a ball down the line for a double and he's playing with a lot of confidence," said manager Bob Melvin. "We're giving him some reps right now. It's nice to see because we're putting an emphasis on defense and he's played great defense every place we've put him." Koss is hitting .333 (4-for-12) with a home run in eight games this spring. He's a long shot but the final bench spot appears wide open for the Giants early this spring. Koss had just a .757 OPS at Triple-A last year (54 games) and hasn't been regarded as a top prospect (he's 27 years old), but his glove could help him find a way on to the roster.

  • Red Sox's Christian Koss: Promoted to Triple-A

The Red Sox promoted Koss to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Koss' .619 OPS this season with Double-A Portland doesn't exactly jump off the page, but his above-average glove has earned him a spot in Triple-A for the first time in his career. As long as his defense holds, Koss should stay put in Worcester, but he has some work to do at the plate before he can be considered for a spot in the majors.

  • Red Sox's Christian Koss: Traded to Boston

Koss was traded from the Rockies to the Red Sox on Thursday in exchange for left-hander Yoan Aybar. Koss was dominant during his first season in the minors in 2019, slashing .332/.447/.605 with 11 home runs, 51 RBI and 10 stolen bases over 53 games at the Rookie level. He'll continue his development with a new organization as he attempts to remain effective against higher-level competition.
