Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Fans seven in no-decision
Rotowire
Sanchez didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing one run on four hits and four walks while fanning seven across 5.1 innings.
Sanchez finished just two outs shy of recording what would've been a second consecutive quality start, but this outing was a bit of a regression compared to his dominant showing on Opening Day. Still, Sanchez should remain a dependable arm at the top of the Phillies' rotation even if he has some command issues here and there. Through his first 11.1 innings, Sanchez has 17 strikeouts while allowing just one run, so there are plenty of positives despite the four walks Wednesday. Sanchez is scheduled to make his next start next week against the Giants on the road.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Dominant Opening Day showing
Rotowire
Sanchez (1-0) picked up the win Thursday against the Rangers, allowing no runs on three hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out 10.
The All-Star left-hander was excellent in his first outing of the year, holding Texas to a lone extra-base hit and generating 13 whiffs in his eighth career double-digit strikeout performance. It was particularly encouraging to see Sanchez throw 87 pitches, considering he topped out at 50 pitches in his final Grapefruit League start. Sanchez will be trying to keep the good times rolling in his next outing, currently projected for a favorable home matchup next week against the Nationals.
Sanchez agreed to a six-year, $107 million contract extension with the Phillies on Sunday that includes a club option for 2033, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
The new deal begins in 2027, so the left-hander will still make $3.5 million this season as part of the four-year, $21.5 million extension he signed in 2024, which still had a couple years remaining plus two team options. Sanchez has been named Philadelphia's Opening Day starter for Thursday's matchup with the Rangers after posting a 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 212:44 K:BB across 32 regular-season starts last year.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Starting Opening Day
Rotowire
Sanchez was announced as the Phillies' Opening Day starter for Thursday's game versus the Rangers, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The left-hander certainly earned it after he posted a 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 212:44 K:BB across 202 innings during the regular season last year, though Zack Wheeler (shoulder) likely would have still earned the nod if healthy. Sanchez has established himself as a frontline starter the past two seasons, with his 212 strikeouts last year ranking seventh in MLB.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Strong showing in loss
Rotowire
Sanchez allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out five across 6.1 innings in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Thursday. He did not factor into the decision.
Sanchez was in a compelling pitcher's duel with Tyler Glasnow, with his only run coming on an inherited runner after he exited the game. While Sanchez didn't overpower the Dodgers' lineup, he induced 10 groundouts to go along with 14 swinging strikes on 95 total pitches. Despite it coming in a losing effort, Sanchez wrapped up an excellent 2025 season and is very likely to be a Cy Young finalist in the coming weeks.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Fans eight in no-decision
Rotowire
Sanchez did not factor in the decision during Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Division Series. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight across 5.2 innings.
Sanchez struck out two in the top of the first inning and cruised through five shutout frames before retiring the first two batters in the top of the sixth. Things then unraveled for the Phillies, as Sanchez walked Freddie Freeman before allowing two-out hits to Tommy Edman and Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez's double plated two, and Sanchez was pulled from the game in favor of David Robertson, who was able to get Max Muncy to end the threat. Matt Strahm, however, surrendered a go-ahead three-run home run to Teoscar Hernandez in the seventh inning. Sanchez looked untouchable prior to the sixth, and he should be available to make his next start Thursday in Game 4 if the series gets to that point.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Listed for another start Sunday
Rotowire
Sanchez is listed as the Phillies' probable starter for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Twins.
Philadelphia seemed likely to hold Sanchez out for any potential wild-card matchup, but after clinching a first-round bye in the postseason with a win Wednesday, the team has since decided to start Sanchez on Sunday in a final tuneup before Game 1 of the NLDS on Oct. 4. It could be something of an abbreviated start for Sanchez, who will not be winning the NL Cy Young over Paul Skenes but should be a finalist for the award after his first career 200-strikeout campaign.

Sanchez gave up three runs in the second inning and one more in the fourth. The Phillies' offense couldn't get anything going early on, as Shohei Ohtani threw five no-hit innings, but the Dodgers' bullpen was far less formidable. Sanchez has allowed a total of seven runs over his last 27 innings and is now at a 2.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 198:43 K:BB through 189.1 innings across 30 starts this season.
