  • Mariners' George Kirby: Rebounds with quality start

Kirby allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Saturday. Kirby struggled against the Mets in the Little League Classic last weekend, but he rebounded well with a quality start in this outing. His usually impeccable control hasn't been present lately -- Kirby has walked multiple batters in six of his last eight starts, though he's still turned in five quality starts in that span. For the season, he's at a 4.05 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 97:26 K:BB through 95.2 innings over 17 starts. He's projected to next take the mound in Cleveland.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Struggles in neutral-site game

Kirby (8-6) allowed seven runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss versus the Mets in Sunday's Little League Classic. Kirby may not want to stop by Williamsport again any time soon, as he had arguably his worst start of the season in this contest. He walked a season-high three batters for the fourth time this year, and the seven runs allowed also represented his most in any outing in 2025. That was enough to end his four-start winning streak. Kirby is now at a 4.22 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 94:23 K:BB through 89.2 innings over 16 starts. The 23 walks represent his most in any year of his four-year career, which is concerning given he's seen his lightest workload this season due to injuries. Kirby will try to right the ship in a home matchup versus the Athletics for his next start.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Dazzles in fourth straight win

Kirby (8-5) picked up the win in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over the Orioles, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter. The right-hander racked up 32 called or swinging strikes among his 87 pitches (57 total strikes) en route to his fourth straight win, and his eighth quality start of the season. Kirby has gotten into the win column in seven of his last eight outings, delivering a 2.42 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 54:11 K:BB across 48.1 innings during that red-hot stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road this weekend against the Mets.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Fans nine in victory

Kirby (7-5) earned the win over the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over six innings. Kirby had his swing-and-miss stuff working, as he racked up a hearty 19 whiffs and nine punchouts. The right-hander didn't give up any extra-base hits among the five knocks he allowed and fired a first-pitch strike to 17 of the 25 batters he faced. Kirby also recorded his third straight quality start and has posted six such outings over his past eight appearances. His 4.04 ERA is still well below his career norm, but Kirby has yielded two or fewer earned runs in nine of his 14 starts on the season.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Strikes out nine in win

Kirby (5-5) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out nine over six innings to earn the win Saturday over the Angels. Kirby rebounded from allowing four runs in each of his last two starts. He allowed a solo home run to Taylor Ward in the second inning, which was just the second homer Kirby's given up over his last six outings. The three walks matched his season high, however. He nearly got into trouble with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning, but he was able to fan Logan O'Hoppe and Luis Rengifo to escape the jam before exiting at 106 pitches (65 strikes). Kirby now has a 4.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 68:16 K:BB through 66 innings across 12 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Shaky in victory

Kirby (4-4) earned the win after throwing five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six, during Saturday's 15-7 win over the Tigers. Kirby made it nine straight starts throwing at least five innings with his performance Saturday. The Tigers got to him for four runs, tied for the most runs he's allowed in a start since the start of June, but the Mariners gave him plenty of run support to secure his fourth win. The 27-year-old enters the All-Star break with a 4.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 54 innings.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: In control for second win

Kirby (2-4) allowed one run on three hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings to earn the win over the Royals on Monday. Kirby threw 60 of 85 pitches for strikes in a dominant performance. He allowed two runs or less in five of his six starts in June, and he also walked one batter or fewer in five of those outings. It's a return to form for the steady right-hander, though his poor first two starts of the year are still weighing on his 4.85 ERA and 1.17 WHIP for the year, though his 41:9 K:BB over 42.2 innings is sharp. Kirby is projected for a favorable home matchup versus the Pirates this weekend.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Hard-luck loss in six strong frames

Kirby (1-4) was saddled with the loss Wednesday against the Twins, giving up one run on three hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out three. The 27-year-old right-hander surrendered a season-low one run, and he even fired 3.2 hitless innings to begin the outing. Minnesota scratched a run across via a Willi Castro single in the sixth frame, but it was still nonetheless one of Kirby's finer efforts so far this year. He's still trying to find a rhythm following a delayed start to the season due to a shoulder injury, as evidenced by his 5.40 ERA through his first 36.2 innings. However, he does carry a 36:9 K:BB and 1.28 WHIP ahead of his next scheduled matchup versus a Royals team with a .664 OPS this year.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Allows two homers in no-decision

Kirby did not factor into the decision in Friday's 9-4 win against the Cubs, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts over five innings. Kirby was tagged for three runs in the first inning before mostly settling down over his next four frames. He threw 60 of 85 pitches for strikes but gave up two homers, bringing his season total to seven in six outings. The 27-year-old has had mixed results since returning from the injured list May 22, allowing exactly two earned runs in three starts while surrendering a combined 15 earned runs in the other three. He'll carry a 6.16 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB across 30.2 innings into a road matchup with the Twins next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Takes no-decision Saturday

Kirby allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Saturday. The three walks were a season high, contributing to his fairly early exit. Kirby needed 101 pitches (63 strikes) to get through five frames, which was a bit of a letdown after his 14-strikeout performance in his previous start versus the Angels. Kirby has been middling so far with a 5.96 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB across 25.2 innings over five starts after beginning the year sidelined by shoulder inflammation. He is lined up to make his next start on the road versus the Cubs.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Dominates Angels for first win

Kirby (1-3) picked up the win Sunday against the Angels, allowing two runs on two hits and no walks with 14 strikeouts over seven innings. Kirby set a career high in strikeouts Sunday, besting his previous record of 12 and marking his fifth career start with double-digit Ks. The only damage against Kirby came in the fourth inning, when Taylor Ward swatted a two-run home run. Kirby's performance should allow fantasy managers to take a sigh of relief, as the historically reliable 27-year-old tallied an 8.57 ERA over his first three starts this season. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Guardians next time out.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Expected to be fine

Manager Dan Wilson said after Tuesday's game that he expects Kirby to be fine after getting hit in the face by a line drive, Andrew Destin of the Associated Press reports. Seattle's skipper added that Ramon Urias' 103-mph line drive in the fifth inning initially struck Kirby's hand before deflecting off his jaw, which likely lessened the impact. The 27-year-old righty is slated to be further evaluated Wednesday, at which point the Mariners will have more information about his condition, though Wilson's comments suggest Kirby still has a good chance to make his next start -- tentatively scheduled to come Sunday against the Angels. Kirby ended up taking the loss Tuesday -- dropping to 0-3 on the year -- after giving up two earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three batters in five innings.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Struggles in season debut

Kirby (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss Thursday versus the Astros. Kirby missed over a quarter of the season while dealing with right shoulder inflammation. He was on a pitch count Thursday and had some rust to shake off, struggling the second time through the Houston order. The Astros tied the game with two runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth. Kirby threw 49 of 72 pitches for strikes and should be able to push closer to 80-to-85 pitches for his second start. That outing is projected to come at home versus the Nationals next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Covers 64 pitches in rehab start

Kirby (shoulder) allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out four over four innings in his rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Kirby made his third start for Tacoma while he continues to get stretched back out after having spent all season on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation. Though he got knocked around a bit Friday, Kirby was able to push his pitch count up to 64 and reached 97.5 miles per hour with his fastball. The Mariners haven't officially commented on Kirby's next steps, but Adam Jude of The Seattle Times notes that the right-hander could return from the IL to make his season debut with Seattle in his next outing. The 27-year-old has been sticking to a five-day rest schedule during his rehab assignment, so if he's activated during the upcoming week, he would likely line up to take the hill Thursday in Houston.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Set for another rehab start

Kirby (shoulder) is expected to make another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday in Albuquerque, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Kirby completed his second rehab start with Tacoma on Saturday, surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters over three innings. The right-hander has missed the entirety of the 2025 campaign so far while recovering from right shoulder inflammation and if all goes well Friday, he'd be on track to return to the major-league roster in the middle of next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Rehab start slated for Saturday

Kirby (shoulder) is scheduled to make another minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Kirby threw 42 pitches in his first rehab outing last Sunday, and he's in line to build up to around 60 pitches in his second appearance Saturday. The right-hander is working his way back from right shoulder inflammation, and Kirby is also expected to make a third start before rejoining Seattle's rotation. That gives him a chance to make his season debut before the end of May, barring any setbacks along the way.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Throws off mound, May return likely

Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Monday that Kirby (shoulder) "felt great" while throwing a bullpen session over the weekend, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Kirby is set to throw two more bullpen sessions this week before beginning a game progression. While Hollander wouldn't divulge a timetable for when the right-hander will be ready for his season debut, signs are pointing to it being sometime in May. Kirby was diagnosed with right shoulder inflammation back on March 7 but has made steady progress since then.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Begins season on shelf

The Mariners placed Kirby (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Seattle hasn't provided any official updates on Kirby's status since he was placed on the IL last week, but the right-hander was able to resume his throwing program March 21 after he was briefly shut down due to shoulder inflammation. Kirby is eligible to return from the IL next Tuesday, but he looks like he'll need more time beyond that to complete his throwing progression and get fully stretched out for starting duty. Emerson Hancock secured a spot in the Mariners' Opening Day rotation as a result of Kirby's injury.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Will throw again Saturday

Kirby (shoulder) made 20 throws from 60 feet Friday and will expand his throwing distance to 75 feet Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Kirby was cleared to begin a throwing program Friday, two weeks after being sidelined with right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander was given a biologics injection last week, which he said definitely helped speed along the healing process. There is no timetable for when Kirby will be ready to make his season debut, as the Mariners will have to see how he responds to the ramp-up.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Hopes to start playing catch soon

Kirby (shoulder) hopes to begin playing catch in the next few days, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. After receiving an injection last week, Kirby has since resumed strengthening exercises but will remain in Arizona for three more weeks to continue his rehab. The Mariners shut Kirby down from throwing on March 7 due to right shoulder inflammation, and the star right-hander's timetable for a return remains up in the air a bit. With Kirby's throwing program still yet to begin, it sounds like fantasy managers shouldn't plan on having him available until mid-April at the earliest. "I'm hoping to get back up there by the middle of April," Kirby said.
