  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Hit hard in 10th inning

Fairbanks (4-4) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out one across one inning to take the loss Wednesday against the Yankees. Fairbanks entered the game in the 10th inning with the score knotted at 3-3. He allowed homers to the first two batters he faced, the first pair he's surrendered in his last six appearances. While his strikeouts remain down, Fairbanks has still been very effective this season by maintaining a 2.85 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 47.1 frames.

Fairbanks allowed a hit and struck out three to earn the save in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Giants. Fairbanks continues to bounce back from a rough July with a strong August. While he allowed a hit for a third straight outing, he was able to secure his fourth straight save while extending his scoreless streak to six innings. Fairbanks is now 22-for-26 in save chances while pitching to a 2.53 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB through a career-high 46.1 innings.

Fairbanks allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 7-6 win over the Giants. Fairbanks continues to be in control in August. He's tossed five scoreless innings this month, earning three saves while posting a 7:0 K:BB. The closer is up to 21 saves on the year and has maintained a 2.58 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 41:15 K:BB over 45.1 innings. That matches his heaviest workload in any season in the majors, but Fairbanks is showing no signs of slowing down.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Records save No. 20

Fairbanks earned a save against the Athletics on Monday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter over one scoreless inning. Fairbanks had a relatively easy path to a save, as he entered with a three-run lead in the ninth frame. The right-hander gave up a leadoff double but then settled in and retired the next three batters. Fairbanks has now reached 20 saves in each of his past three campaigns, and he has an excellent shot at exceeding his career-best mark of 25 regular-season saves, which he recorded in 2023.

Fairbanks earned the save in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Angels, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. Fairbanks pitched a clean ninth to lock up his 17th save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. Fairbanks made quick work of the White Sox, needing 12 pitches to get through the ninth. He's now converted consecutive save chances out of the All-Star break and is on pace to set a new career high in saves after recording 25 in 2023. • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Secures 16th save

Fairbanks notched a save against the Orioles on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one batter over one inning. Fairbanks had a two-run lead to work with when he entered in the ninth frame, but things got interesting when Cedric Mullins hit an RBI single and then stole second base with two outs. Another base hit out of the infield would have likely tied the score, but Fairbanks got Jackson Holliday to fly out to end the threat. Fairbanks was thus able record his first save in July (his previous save had come June 26 against Kansas City). The veteran right-hander has 16 of Tampa Bay's 22 saves on the campaign, and he remains pretty secure in his role despite the recent three-week drought.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Loses control in ninth

Fairbanks (4-3) took the loss and blew a save Friday, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk while recording just one out in the 5-4 defeat to the Red Sox. Fairbanks ran into trouble in the ninth. After retiring the first batter he faced, the 31-year-old issued a walk to Roman Anthony before surrendering a walk-off two-run homer that erased the Rays' late lead. It marked just his third blown save of the season, but the right-hander has now allowed multiple runs in three of his last 10 appearances, a stretch that has dented an otherwise solid 2025 campaign.

  • Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Can't convert save Monday

Fairbanks blew a save opportunity against the Red Sox on Monday, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one batter in 1.1 innings. Rays manager Kevin Cash turned to Fairbanks in a key spot with two outs and a runner on base in the bottom of the eighth frame. The right-hander got Jarren Duran to strike out to preserve a one-run lead, and he looked to be in a great position to close things out after Tampa Bay added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. However, Fairbanks couldn't get the job done -- he allowed two runs in the bottom of the inning to allow the game to go into extra frames. The blown save was just the second in 14 attempts for Fairbanks this season, and it was his first since May 8. Prior to Monday, the veteran closer hadn't allowed an earned run in any of his previous nine appearances.

Fairbanks was brought in to protect the Rays' two-run lead, and he was able to work around two walks to come away with his 10th save of the season (and second in as many days). He needed 21 pitches (11 strikes) to get through the frame, which could impact his availability for Sunday's series finale. Fairbanks has a 2.05 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB across 22 innings this season.
