Tigers' Brett Callahan: Hitting bench Sunday
Callahan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Javier Baez will get the nod in left field Sunday, but Callahan has emerged as the Tigers' primary option at the position since being called up from Triple-A Toledo a week ago. He has started five of the ensuing six games, going 5-for-17 with one home run, one triple, one double, five RBI and two runs.

Tigers' Brett Callahan: Slugs first major-league homer
Callahan went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during the Tigers' 4-1 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.
The Tigers didn't have much of an answer for Braxton Ashcraft, but Callahan was responsible for two of Detroit's five hits off the right-hander, one which was a solo homer in the fifth inning. The home run was the first of Callahan's career, and the 24-year-old outfielder has gone 4-for-9 with five RBI and two extra-base hits while starting in three straight games since being promoted from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Tigers' Brett Callahan: Called up for MLB debut
The Tigers selected Callahan's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. He'll start in left field and bat seventh in the series finale versus the White Sox.
Trei Cruz was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The 24-year-old Callahan opened the season at Double-A Erie and posted an .879 OPS in 59 games to earn a bump up to Triple-A, where he slashed .271/.351/.338 with one home run and nine steals across 151 plate appearances and saw time at all three outfield spots. He could get a look in a semi-regular role until the banged-up Tigers get healthier.
