Martin has been diagnosed with flexor strain in his left elbow and is expected to miss eight weeks, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Martin was placed on the 15-day injured list over the weekend due to left elbow inflammation, but it's since been reported that he'll need more than the minimum to return to full strength. The Cubs are weathering quite the injury storm in the bullpen, as Daniel Palencia (lat), Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) and Hunter Harvey (triceps) are also on the shelf.

The Cubs placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to April 24, due to left elbow inflammation.
Martin has been an effective bullpen piece this season with a 2.16 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB over 8.1 innings, but he's now the latest in a long line of Cubs relievers to go down with an injury. The left-hander will be eligible to be reinstated May 9, but it's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined.

Cubs' Riley Martin: Serving as opener Tuesday
Rotowire
Martin will serve as the Cubs' opening pitcher for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Martin will presumably work the first inning or two before handing the ball over to Colin Rea, who was previously listed as the Cubs' starter for Tuesday but will instead operate as a bulk reliever. The start will be the first of Martin's career after he made his previous three appearances with the Cubs out of the bullpen.
