Giants' Dylan Smith: Traded to Giants
The Giants acquired Smith from the Tigers on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.
Smith had been removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster last week and is now on the move to a new organization. The 25-year-old reliever has minor-league options and has been assigned to Triple-A Sacramento.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: DFA'd by Detroit
The Tigers designated Smith for assignment Wednesday.
The right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in early March and is now losing his place on the 40-man roster. Smith made his MLB debut with seven relief appearances for the Tigers last year and pitched well, posting a 1.38 ERA and 0.85 WHIP despite a 4:5 K:BB.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Sent packing from big-league camp
The Tigers optioned Smith to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Smith will still join the Tigers' big-league group for its two-game exhibition in the Dominican Republic during the upcoming week, but he'll report to minor-league camp upon returning to Florida. The 25-year-old righty allowed just two earned runs on six hits and five walks over 13 innings in his seven appearances out of the Detroit bullpen in 2025, but he'll likely need to pitch well at Toledo before earning another look in the big leagues.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Back from IL
Smith (shoulder) struck out two and allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk over one inning Wednesday in a relief appearance for Triple-A Toledo after being activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Smith had been on the shelf at Toledo since the All-Star break due to a right shoulder strain before rejoining the Triple-A bullpen upon completing a six-appearance rehab assignment between the Florida State and Midwest Leagues. The 25-year-old righty possesses a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster and could be a candidate for a promotion in the final two weeks of the season if Detroit has a need for another bullpen arm.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Possible late-season option?
Smith (shoulder) is a candidate to get called up to the majors late in the season if he's healthy enough, Sam Dykstra and Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com report.
Smith has been on the shelf at Triple-A Toledo since July 6 with a shoulder strain, though there is some optimism that he'll be able to return in September, which could make him a candidate to help the Tigers out of the bullpen if a need arises. Prior to getting hurt, the 25-year-old righty had posted a 1.38 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 13 innings across two stints with Detroit before being sent back to the minors in early July.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Shelved at Triple-A
Triple-A Toledo placed Smith on its 7-day injured list Thursday due to an unspecified injury.
After being optioned to Toledo on July 2, Smith made just one appearance for the Triple-A club before landing on the IL. The 25-year-old right-hander maintains a 2.70 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB in 26.2 innings between Toledo and Double-A Erie this season.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Sent back to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Smith to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday after their 11-2 win over the Nationals in the first game of a doubleheader.
Smith was credited with his first MLB after tossing 3.1 scoreless innings in relief while allowing two hits and two walks without recording a strikeout. The right-hander has allowed just two earned runs over 13 major-league innings since the beginning of June, but because he's unlikely to be available for at least the next couple of days following the 43-pitch appearance, he was sent back to the minors. The Tigers recalled outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy from Triple-A to replace Smith on the 26-man active roster.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Continues strong debut
Smith, who tossed two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Twins, now has a 1.86 ERA this season.
Smith has been back and forth between Detroit and Triple-A Toledo, so he's only logged 9.2 innings for the Tigers to date, but he's impressed in the small sample, allowing just four hits and three walks for a strong 0.72 WHIP. The 25-year-old is working in a mostly low-leverage role with limited fantasy impact during his rookie campaign, though he could earn more high-leverage innings if he continues to pitch well.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Optioned and recalled
The Tigers optioned Smith to Triple-A Toledo and recalled him Friday.
Smith served as Detroit's 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader versus Pittsburgh, appearing in relief and tossing two scoreless innings in the Tigers' 9-2 win in the first game of the day. Though he was expected to be returned to Toledo following the twin bill, Smith will instead stick around with Detroit after Keider Montero was optioned to Triple-A on Friday.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Heads back to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Smith to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The transaction clears a spot on the Tigers' 26-man active roster for Sawyer Gipson-Long (elbow/hip), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the White Sox. After getting his first big-league call-up last Friday, Smith made two appearances out of the bullpen and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over three innings without striking out a batter.

Tigers' Dylan Smith: Destined for majors
The Tigers plan to select Smith's contract Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Smith has transitioned from a starting to a relief role this season and found significant success. He was just promoted to Triple-A Toledo on May 19, but he has picked up a save and struck out five across 2.1 innings at the level. Smith figures to begin his big-league career in low-leverage spots, but he could move up the bullpen hierarchy if he performs well.

Smith has performed well through his first 12 appearances of the 2025 campaign at Double-A Erie, posting a 1.80 ERA and 0.80 WHIP with 27 strikeouts over 20.0 innings. He's found success strictly in a relief role this season after making 13 starts a season ago at High-A West Michigan.
