  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Covers three innings

Leahy allowed a hit and struck out one without walking a batter over three scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Sunday. Leahy started the bullpen game and had the most innings pitched of the five pitchers the Cardinals used in their season finale. This was a fine first career start, and the right-hander ended the season on a seven-inning scoreless streak. Overall, he pitched to a 3.07 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 80:28 K:BB across 88 innings across 62 appearances, adding a 4-2 record, one save, 18 holds and four blown saves as a multi-inning reliever. He could be a contender for the rotation in 2026, but Leahy hasn't regularly worked as a starter since 2022.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: In line to start bullpen game

Leahy is lined up to serve as the Cardinals' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. As long as Leahy isn't needed to pitch in relief Friday or Saturday, he'll lead off a bullpen game in the final day of the regular season. Leahy has never started a game at the big-league level, but the Cardinals plan to stretch him out next season for a potential spot in the rotation. The 28-year-old hasn't gone more than two innings in any of his last 15 appearances, so his workload will be limited Sunday.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Could start final game of season

Leahy is an option to start the final game of the season Sunday against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It would be a sneak peek at Leahy as a starting pitcher as the Cardinals consider moving him into the rotation next season. All 97 of Leahy's appearances at the big-league level to this point have come in relief, though he has often gone multiple innings in his outings this season. The righty might be capable of covering 3-to-4 innings Sunday, but it would essentially be a bullpen game for the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Tagged with blown save, loss

Leahy (4-2) allowed two runs (one earned) over 1.1 innings, taking a blown save and a loss Saturday in Milwaukee. Leahy was put into an impossible situation in the bottom of the ninth, taking over for an ineffective Riley O'Brien with runners on the corners, no one out and the Cardinals nursing a one-run lead. He did well to give up just one run that frame to send the game to the 10th. Leahy remained in the game after the Cardinals scored one in the top of the 10th, and he coughed up the tying and winning runs to get saddled with a loss. The 28-year-old Leahy will likely remain in the mix for high-leverage appearances for the Cardinals, though he is often used earlier in games for multiple innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Struggling of late

Leahy has posted a 6.52 ERA and 6:5 K:BB over 9.2 innings covering his last nine appearances. Leahy still holds a 2.48 ERA for the season thanks to his great start, but a 3.73 FIP and 27:12 K:BB across 36.1 innings paint a less flattering picture. The 28-year-old collected 12 holds through his first 23 appearances but has zero across his last six outings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Works way into high-leverage spots

Leahy is set to see more high-leverage relief appearances for the Cardinals, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Leahy is off to an excellent start, having allowed just one run and one hit with a 10:3 K:BB over 7.2 innings. He looks to have leapfrogged Ryan Fernandez -- who has a 10.80 ERA -- in the pecking order among righty relievers for St. Louis, at least for the time being. While he's unlikely to garner any save chances, Leahy could be worth a look in leagues that count holds.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Standing out in bid for RP spot

Leahy has spun eight scoreless innings with a 9:1 K:BB during Grapefruit League play this spring. Leahy is competing with Nick Anderson, Chris Roycroft and Riley O'Brien for one of the final two spots in the Cardinals' Opening Day bullpen. Perhaps working in Leahy's favor, in addition to his fine work this spring, is that he's shown the ability to go multiple frames, whereas the other three competitors are more one-inning relievers. Each of Leahy's last three outings this spring were two innings apiece, and he recorded more than three outs in 20 of his 33 appearances last season for St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Returns to majors

The Cardinals recalled Leahy from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Leahy owns a 4.02 ERA and 1.02 WHIP through 47 innings with the Cardinals this season, and he's given up just one earned run across 5.2 Triple-A frames since making his last MLB appearance Sept. 6. He'll come up to give the Cards some additional bullpen depth as Sonny Gray (forearm) heads to the IL.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Optioned to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Leahy has turned in a 4.30 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 14.2 innings since being recalled from the minors in late-July, though he'll now be sent back to Triple-A after giving up three runs over 1.1 frames during Friday's loss. Chris Roycroft was recalled from Memphis in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Recalled by St. Louis

The Cardinals recalled Leahy from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. The move corresponds with the Cardinals designating right-hander Giovanny Gallegos for assignment. Leahy's last major-league outing was July 21 against Atlanta, when he pitched two scoreless innings and notched his first major-league save. Across 19 major-league outings this season, Leahy has a 3.90 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 32.1 innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Heading back to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. Leahy served as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Atlanta and was called upon out of the bullpen in the second game. He delivered two scoreless innings to finish out the Cardinals' 9-5 win, notching his first MLB save in the process. Though he'll head back to Triple-A, Leahy should rank near the top of the list for a call-up the next time the Cardinals are in need of an extra relief arm.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Serving as 27th man

Leahy is with the Cardinals and will be the team's 27th player for the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Leahy will give the Cardinals and additional bullpen arm for Game 2 after St. Louis lost 3-2 in 10 innings during the matinee. Leahy has thrown 30.1 big-league innings with a 4.15 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He'll likely be sent back to Memphis following the contest.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Sent back to minors

The Cardinals returned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. Leahy will head back to Memphis after he was summoned from the Triple-A club on Saturday to serve as the Cardinals' 27th man for a doubleheader with the Cubs. He was called upon in relief in the Cardinals' 11-3 win in the first game of the twin bill, striking out two while allowing one earned run on two hits and no walks over two innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Added as 27th man

The Cardinals added Leahy to their active roster for Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Leahy owns a 4.13 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 28.1 innings in the majors this season, and he'll now return to St. Louis in order to add extra depth to the bullpen for Saturday's twin bill. He'll likely be returned to Triple-A Memphis after the conclusion of the second game.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Sent back to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Friday. After giving up two runs in three innings against Atlanta on Wednesday, Leahy was removed from the active roster in favor of Gordon Graceffo. Leahy had been with the Cardinals since May 3, earning a 3.67 ERA over 27 innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Picks up win Monday

Leahy (1-1) struck out three over 2.2 perfect innings to earn the win Monday over Angels. Starter Matthew Liberatore labored through 3.1 innings, while Leahy was sharp and kept the Cardinals' deficit at four runs. The team's offense made a rare explosion with eight runs in the seventh inning, and they held the lead the rest of the way to get Leahy his first big-league win. The right-hander has a 5.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB over 9.2 innings through five appearances as a long reliever this season. With Liberatore still not stretched out as a starter, Leahy could continue to piggyback him while Steven Matz (back) is on the injured list.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Returns to Triple-A

The Cardinals returned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis following Tuesday's doubleheader with the Tigers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Leahy received his first call-up of 2024 on Tuesday, serving as the Cardinals' 27th man for the twin bill. He came on in relief of starter Steven Matz in the Cardinals' 11-6 loss in Game 2, taking the loss while allowing two earned runs on two hits in 1.1 innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Cardinals sent Leahy outright to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. Leahy was brought onto the Cardinals' 40-man roster in July and made three appearances before being optioned back to Triple-A. He surrendered four earned runs over just 1.2 innings in the majors, and he posted a 6.37 ERA across 83.1 frames with Memphis. Barring a significant improvement, Leahy doesn't project to contribute significantly in the majors next season.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Selected to MLB bullpen

St. Louis selected Leahy's contract from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. Leahy is up to fill a long-relief role for the Cardinals, who badly need fresh arms in the bullpen. The 26-year-old right-hander was showing an underwhelming 4.06 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB through 51 innings of work this season with Memphis.
