Top Starlyn Caba News

  • Marlins' Starlyn Caba: Looking healthy in 2026

Caba is slashing .295/.405/.459 with an 11:16 BB:K through 16 games with High-A Beloit.

The 20-year-old shortstop dealt with a thumb injury last season that limited his production at the plate, but Caba appears to be healthy and back on track with his development in 2026. Acquired from the Phillies in the Jesus Luzardo trade ahead of the 2024 campaign, Caba's glovework remains his biggest asset, but he has enough speed and on-base skills to potentially be a contributor at the bottom of a big-league lineup in a few years.

  • Marlins' Starlyn Caba: Back on track at Single-A

Caba (thumb) is 8-for-26 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored in his last six games for Single-A Jupiter.

Caba got off to a tough start to begin July, going 3-for-20 at the dish through his first five appearances. However, he's managed to get back on track by collecting at least one base knock in five of his previous six matchups. Caba missed over two months of action earlier in the season while recovering from a left thumb sprain but has remained healthy since his return June 24.

  • Marlins' Starlyn Caba: Sidelined with sprained thumb

Single-A Jupiter transferred Caba from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list May 7 with a left thumb sprain, Ely Sussman of Fish on First reports.

Caba last played April 17 and will be sidelined until at least mid-June and potentially later into the summer. The slick-fielding shortstop slashed .200/.431/.200 with zero home runs, six steals and a 7:15 K:BB in 11 games before suffering the thumb injury.

  • Marlins' Starlyn Caba: Traded for Luzardo

The Marlins acquired Caba and Emaarion Boyd from the Phillies on Sunday in exchange for left-hander Jesus Luzardo (back) and minor-league catcher Paul McIntosh, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Caba was one of Philadelphia's top prospects after signing in the 2022-23 international class and split the 2024 campaign between rookie ball and Single-A Clearwater. He'll likely return to the Single-A level to begin 2025 given his .493 OPS in 26 games there last season, but he showcased a strong eye at the plate with a 14.4 percent walk rate in addition to his plus-glove at shortstop.

  • Phillies' Starlyn Caba: Wrapping up strong campaign

Caba is hitting .180 with a .308 on-base percentage, zero home runs, 13 steals and as many walks (15) as strikeouts in 24 games for Single-A Clearwater.

Given that Caba logged a .427 OBP, 15.1 percent strikeout rate and 37 steals in 52 Florida Complex League games while showcasing plus defense at shortstop prior to his promotion to Single-A, this season has still been a positive one for the the 18-year-old switch hitter. Caba's glove will likely get him to the big leagues, where his plus speed could make him relevant in fantasy if he gets enough playing time. It's still to be determined how much of an impact the 5-foot-9 shortstop will make at the plate.
