  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Sent to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Richardson will be sent down to the minors alongside Yosver Zulueta in order to make room on the active roster for Graham Ashcraft (forearm) and Chase Burns (elbow), both of whom returned from the injured list Thursday. Richardson, 25, surrendered three earned runs in one inning during his lone appearance since being promoted Sept. 3 and now carries a 4.54 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through 37.2 MLB frames.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Summoned from minors

The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. Richardson will provide the Reds with a fresh arm after they went with a bullpen game in Tuesday's 12-9 loss to the Blue Jays. He's collected a 3.93 ERA and 30:20 K:BB over 36.2 frames during his time with the big club this season.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Sent back to minors

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Cincinnati and Atlanta were granted a 27th player on the active roster Sunday during the completion of the suspended Speedway Classic game, and Richardson filled that role for the Reds. The righty struck out three over two scoreless innings Sunday and will now rejoin Louisville's bullpen.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Rejoins big club

The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville on Friday. The right-hander was sent to Louisville on May 22 but he'll come back up to take the spot of Luis Mey, who was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. Richardson has made 10 appearances in the majors this season and has a 1.32 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB across 13.2 innings.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Sent back to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Richardson was needed for three innings in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals, so he's being sent out in favor of a fresh bullpen arm. Yosver Zulueta was called up from Triple-A to take over Richardson's spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Optioned to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Richardson has had a nice spring with a 2.00 ERA and nine strikeouts over nine innings, but he will nonetheless begin the season at Louisville. The 25-year-old will be part of Louisville's rotation.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Heads back to minors

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. Richardson got some work out of the bullpen in Tuesday's win over the Cubs, allowing two runs while retiring two batters. The right-hander will rejoin the rotation at Louisville.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Back as 27th man

The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Richardson was recalled ahead of Tuesday's game against Atlanta before being optioned to Triple-A after the contest was postponed. However, he never actually left the club and now will be temporarily added back to the active roster as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader in Atlanta. Richardson is a good bet to eat some innings after Nick Martinez in the second game of the twin bill before the Reds send him back to Louisville.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Sent back to Louisville

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Richardson was recalled earlier Tuesday to give the Reds some depth in the bullpen while Nick Martinez started. However, Tuesday's contest was postponed due to rain, so Richardson will now head back to the minors without appearing in a game. The 24-year-old owns a 4.29 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 77.2 innings in Triple-A and could still be an option to make a spot start in the majors later in the year.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Optioned to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. Richardson split his time last season between Triple-A and the majors. He spent the end of 2023 in the minors after posting an 8.64 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 12:15 K:BB over 16.2 innings with the Reds. Richardson will start 2024 in Louisville and will attempt to work his way back into Cincinnati's rotation.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Sent to minors

Richardson was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. The 23-year-old started for the past few turns through Cincinnati's rotation, but he'll head back to Triple-A after he posted a 7.90 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 10:12 K:BB across 13.2 innings. Richardson should return to the rotation at Louisville, where he has a 3.60 ERA in three starts.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: No-decision in nightcap

Richardson came away with a no-decision in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Cubs, giving up two runs on two hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. Promoted earlier in the day to take the place of Ben Lively (COVID-19), Richardson struggled to find the plate and tossed only 51 of his 91 pitches for strikes. He exited the game in line for the loss, but the Reds rallied for two runs in the ninth to secure a 3-2 victory. The 23-year-old has a 9:11 K:BB through 12 innings in the majors this season, and it's not clear if he'll even remain in the big-league bullpen when Lively is ready to return.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Returns to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Richardson to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. As anticipated, Richardson was with the Reds for only a brief period of time after he was called up from Louisville on Wednesday and designated as the club's 27th man for the doubleheader with the Angels. Richardson ended up drawing the start in the second game of the twin bill, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings while not factoring into the decision in the Reds' 7-3 victory.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Mediocre in spot start

Richardson allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Angels in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader. Richardson was recalled from Triple-A Louisville as the 27th man for the doubleheader, so it's unclear if his stay on the major-league roster will last beyond Wednesday. He didn't do much to make a case for himself in a poor spot start. The right-hander threw 45 of 79 pitches for strikes in the outing, his second in the majors this year. He's allowed seven runs over 7.1 innings with a 5:6 K:BB in those appearances.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Optioned to Triple-A

Richardson was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Richardson was called up from Louisville to make his big-league debut Sunday, but he was dealt the loss after giving up four earned runs on four hits and three walks over three innings. The performance wasn't enough for him to stake a claim to a permanent spot in the Cincinnati rotation, but he could, however, return to the majors before the season comes to a close. Cincinnati called up right-hander Brett Kennedy from Louisville in a corresponding move.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Called up for MLB debut

The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Nationals in Cincinnati. Cincinnati optioned right-handed reliever Daniel Duarte to Triple-A to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for Richardson, who will be making his MLB debut Sunday. Though he'll be joining the rotation as a replacement for the injured Ben Lively (pectoral), Richardson may not be trusted with working deep enough into the contest to qualify for the win. Richardson turned in a tidy 1.86 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 19 outings this season across Louisville, Double-A Chattanooga and High-A Dayton, but he never covered more than four innings in any start.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Set to debut Sunday

Richardson will be called up from Triple-A Louisville to make his first big-league start Sunday against the Nationals, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Richardson was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, and it turns out the reason was to keep him on schedule for his first start in the major leagues. Richardson is one of Cincinnati's better prospects, but he hasn't thrown more than 49 pitches in a game since May, so he'll likely face some sort of pitch limit Sunday.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: On mend from Tommy John surgery

Richardson will miss all of the 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery during the offseason, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports. According to Mayo, Richardson had been pitching hurt in 2021, which explains the 5.09 ERA and 1.47 WHIP he posted in 76 innings at High-A Dayton. It's unclear when exactly he had the surgery, but he could potentially return in April or May of 2023 if he avoids setbacks.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Scoreless spring debut

Richardson threw a scoreless inning against the Angels in his spring training debut, throwing his fastball between 93-96 mph, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "He came in and looked like he'd been pitching in the big leagues for a lot of years," manager David Bell said. "He just really attacked and went after the hitters. Clearly has the stuff to match it. He's a guy that's never played above A-ball, and you wouldn't have known that watching him tonight." Richardson was the Reds' second-round draft pick in 2018, and he hasn't yet advanced beyond Low-A, though he did spend some time in September at the Reds' alternate training site. It'll be interesting to see where the Reds start him this season and whether he's made enduring improvements that'll allow him to advance to the majors quickly.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Joins 60-man player pool

Richardson was added to the Reds' 60-man player pool Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. A second-round pick in 2018, Richardson has yet to really turn heads as a prospect. Last year he logged a 4.15 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 106 strikeouts in 112.2 innings at Low-A.
