  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Back to Triple-A after spot start

The Rockies optioned Sullivan to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Colorado summoned Sullivan from Triple-A on Saturday to make a spot start in place of Tomoyuki Sugano, who was unable to recover from his back spasms as quickly as anticipated and was placed on the injured list. Sullivan dropped to 0-3 in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Giants, serving up six earned runs on 12 hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He'll now head back to Triple-A and give up his spot on the active roster to right-hander TJ Shook, who was recalled from Albuquerque to provide the Rockies with extra coverage in the bullpen heading into Sunday's series finale.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Struggles again in return

Sullivan (0-3) took the loss against San Francisco on Saturday, allowing six runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings. Sullivan was brought up from Triple-A on Saturday to make the start after Tomoyuki Sugano landed on the IL due to back spasms. Sullivan had posted an 8.64 ERA across four starts prior to being recalled, and that number got even worse after Saturday's outing. The left-hander was knocked around for a career-worst 12 hits, eight of which (seven doubles and a home run) went for extra bases. Sullivan has given up five or more runs in over half of his starts so far and has yet to notch an MLB victory. Still, he could make at least one more start in place of Sugano given Colorado's lack of other rotation options.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Officially recalled ahead of start

The Rockies recalled Sullivan from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. Sullivan was optioned to Albuquerque on Tuesday, but he's right back up with the big-league club to make a start in place of Tomoyuki Sugano, who was placed on the 15-day IL due to back spasms. Sullivan has struggled during his time with the big-league club this season, recording an 8.64 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 12:9 K:BB over 16.2 innings spanning four starts. However, Colorado doesn't have many other rotation options to turn to, so Sullivan could remain in a starting role beyond Saturday while Sugano recovers.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Sullivan to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. Sullivan will head back to Triple-A after failing to establish himself during his first four MLB starts and accumulating an 8.64 ERA and 1.86 WHIP across 16.2 innings. He'll be replaced in Colorado's rotation by Tanner Gordon (hip), who returned from the injured list to start Tuesday's game against Miami.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Shows poor control in loss

Sullivan (0-2) took the loss against Boston on Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out three batters over five innings. Sullivan was able to complete five frames for the first time as a big leaguer, but that's where the positives end. The southpaw put himself in constant danger by handing out five free passes, with two of the batters he walked eventually coming around to score. Sullivan was at least better than in his previous start, when he was rocked by the Cubs for eight runs over four innings, but his performances so far have given fantasy managers no reason to consider adding him to their rosters.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Yields eight runs in loss

Sullivan (0-1) allowed eight runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out two over four innings to take the loss versus the Cubs on Wednesday. Sullivan threw 56 of 82 pitches for strikes, but the Cubs had no trouble getting to him. The southpaw threw three scoreless innings against the Athletics last week before his major-league debut was cut short by an illness. Sullivan pitched to a 5.76 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 50:10 K:BB over 54.2 innings with Triple-A Albuquerque prior to his call-up, and given his tough home park, he's a risky option at best in fantasy. If Tanner Gordon (hip) remains out next week, Sullivan is tentatively projected to make a home start versus the Red Sox.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Awarded another start

Sullivan (illness) will start Wednesday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Rockies called Sullivan up from Triple-A Albuquerque last Friday to fill the fifth spot in their rotation. Despite being tasked with making his MLB debut in an extreme hitter-friendly venue in Las Vegas, Sullivan was able to keep the Athletics off the board for three innings while striking out three batters and allowing just three baserunners. The 23-year-old lefty ended up having his start cut short after falling ill, but he's since recovered from the ailment and performed well enough during his time on the mound to earn himself another turn through the rotation. Even though he excelled in his debut and will be pitching in a more favorable environment for his second start, Sullivan will still be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes after he posted underwhelming numbers over a larger sample at Triple-A (5.76 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 50:19 K:BB in 54.2 innings).

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Set to make MLB debut Friday

The Rockies will call up Sullivan from Triple-A Albuquerque to make his major-league debut with a start Friday versus the Athletics, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports. It's a difficult environment for Sullivan to be making his big-league debut, as Friday's contest will be played at the very hitter-friendly Las Vegas Ballpark. The 23-year-old southpaw holds a 5.60 ERA and 50:19 K:BB over 54.2 innings covering 11 starts this season with Albuquerque. Sullivan could earn additional starts if he pitches well, but he's not a recommended fantasy option Friday.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Ready to go for Double-A club

Double-A Hartford activated Sullivan (hip) on Tuesday, and he's listed as the team's scheduled starter for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday with Binghamton. Sullivan is ready to make his 2025 debut for the Double-A club after he was delayed to begin the season while completing his recovery from hip surgery. He was cleared to join Hartford after making two rehab starts between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Single-A Fresno. He built up to four innings in his most recent outing last Thursday in the California League, striking out two while allowing no runs on three hits and no walks.

  • Rockies' Sean Sullivan: Rebounding from hip surgery

Manager Bud Black said Thursday that Sullivan will be behind the Rockies' other pitchers to begin spring training while the left-hander continues to recover from hip surgery, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. It's unclear when Sullivan had surgery, but it was presumably at some point over the winter, as he finished last season on Double-A Hartford's active roster. Sullivan was excellent over his seven starts with Hartford (1.97 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 24:7 K:BB in 32 innings), and his efforts earned him his first invitation to big-league camp as a non-roster invitee. Once he's fully ramped up, Sullivan will likely open the 2025 season with either Hartford or Triple-A Albuquerque.
