  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Comes off IL

The Mariners reinstated Raley (back) from the 10-day injured list Friday. After going 4-for-16 with two homers in four minor-league rehab games, Raley has been given the green light to join the active roster Friday. The 30-year-old has been on the shelf since July 25 due to back spasms. Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Raley had been seeing regular playing time at first base before sustaining the injury, but the arrival of Josh Naylor likely means Raley will be relegated to a reserve role.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Cleared for rehab assignment

Raley (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports. Raley landed on the 10-day injured list in late July due to back spasms. He started his hitting progression Tuesday, and he's progressed enough in his recovery to embark on a rehab assignment. Raley may need only a weekend stint with Tacoma before being cleared to return to the majors.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Back to hitting

Raley (back) will begin a hitting progression Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Back spasms have kept Raley out of action since July 25, though he wasn't officially placed on the IL until July 30. Assuming his return to hitting goes smoothly, the plan is for him to begin a rehab assignment in the minors over the weekend before returning sometime next week.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Goes on IL with back spasms

The Mariners placed Raley on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with back spasms. Raley had been dealing with the injury for a few days, and after he made limited improvement, the Mariners decided to deactivate him. He will be eligible to return Aug. 6, but it's not clear whether Raley will be ready to go on that date. Tyler Locklear was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to replace Raley on the 26-man active roster.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Moving to injured list

The Mariners are expected to place Raley on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with back stiffness, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Between his stiff back and the recent acquisition of Josh Naylor, Raley hasn't played in Seattle's last six games. The Mariners will now place him on the injured list to give him all the time he needs to recover, and Tyler Locklear will come up from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the open roster spot.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Idle against RHP on Monday

Raley is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. The left-handed-hitting Raley has gotten on base at a .364 clip and has provided three extra-base hits in eight games since returning from the injured list, but he'll nonetheless hit the bench for the second time in the Mariners' last five matchups with a right-handed pitcher (Michael Wacha). Raley still looks to be in good position to hold down a strong-side platoon role for the long haul, but he'll give way at first base Monday to Donovan Solano, who has made it difficult on the Mariners to take his bat out of the lineup. Since June 8, Solano has hit safely in 11 of 14 games while slashing .413/.449/.630 overall.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: On bench against righty

Raley is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins. The left-handed-hitting Raley had started in each of the Mariners' last three games, but for the second time since he was activated from the injured list last Friday, he'll take a seat against a right-handed starting pitcher (Simeon Woods Richardson). Raley still appears likely to see the lion's share of playing time at first base versus righties after the Mariners recently cut Rowdy Tellez, but the hot-hitting Donovan Solano -- who has largely served as a short-side platoon player this season -- has made a strong case of late for earning more opportunities. Solano will get the nod at first base Thursday after slashing .485/.514/.788 with three home runs and 13 RBI over his last 10 games.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Blasts first homer since return

Raley went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and a hit-by-pitch in Monday's victory over the Twins. Raley played first base and took Bailey Ober deep in the third inning to notch his third homer of the season. He was later lifted from the game in favor of Dylan Moore when Minnesota brought in a lefty, Joey Wentz, to relieve Ober. Raley currently fills the strong side of a platoon and likely will continue to do so thanks to a career .185 average (29-for-157) against southpaws. Through 95 plate appearances this season, the 30-year-old is slashing .247/.379/.403 with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Not in Sunday's lineup

Raley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs. Raley has gone 4-for-7 with a double, two RBI and a run in his first two games back from an oblique strain, but he'll hit the bench Sunday even though Chicago is starting righty Colin Rea. Donovan Solano will receive another start at first base while Dominic Canzone starts in right.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Strong performance in loss

Raley went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 10-7 loss against the Cubs. Raley was highly productive in just his second game back after recovering from an oblique strain. The left-handed hitter has excelled at reaching base with a .370 OBP but hasn't shown much power yet in 2025, slugging just .360 with five extra-base hits (three doubles, two home runs) over 75 at-bats -- a far cry from the 41 long balls he launched over 761 ABs in 2023-24.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Activation imminent

Raley's (oblique) activation from the 10-day injured list is considered imminent, and he could be reinstated ahead of this weekend's series against the Cubs, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Raley has looked ready to return in five rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma, going 7-for-19 with one home run and one double. The Mariners had planned to delay the left-handed-hitting Raley's activation until at least Saturday since they were scheduled to face southpaw Matthew Boyd. However, the Cubs' rotation is somewhat in flux now after a rainout Wednesday, so Raley could be back Friday if Chicago starts righty Cade Horton that day. Raley is likely to see most of his playing time in right field, although he could see some action at first base and designated hitter, as well. He's been out since late April with a right oblique strain.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Beginning rehab assignment

Raley (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. A right oblique strain has kept Raley sidelined since the end of April. After nearly a month and a half of recovery, the 30-year-old slugger has been cleared to return to a competitive environment. The Mariners haven't yet specified how long his rehab assignment will be, but he figures to have a good chance to return as Seattle's primary right fielder before the end of June.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Hopes to begin rehab work next week

Raley (oblique) hopes to begin a minor-league rehab assignment early next week, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Raley felt good after taking max-effort swings Wednesday for the first time since going on the injured list, which looks to be one of his final steps before returning to game action on an assignment. The 30-year-old slugger has been recuperating from a right oblique strain since the end of April, and he's tracking toward rejoining the Mariners at some point in mid-to-late June. Seattle is using a combination of Leody Taveras and Dylan Moore in right field in Raley's absence, while Rowdy Tellez and Donovan Solano have worked in a platoon at first base.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Nearing rehab assignment

The Mariners are targeting next week for Raley (oblique) to begin a rehab assignment, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Raley landed on the 10-day injured list April 30 due to a right oblique strain. He's been ramping up his baseball activities and is close to being cleared to start a rehab assignment. Raley was slashing .206/.345/.324 with two steals, two home runs and eight RBI over 84 plate appearances prior to his injury.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Scratched from lineup

Raley was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Angels due to an apparent injury, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Raley seemingly tweaked something in his side/back while taking batting practice before the game. He underwent imaging to determine the severity of his injury, and although the results haven't been announced yet, the Mariners will pull Raley from their starting nine. Miles Mastrobuoni will move to right field as a result, opening up second base for Leo Rivas.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Sitting against southpaw

Raley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. The left-handed-hitting Raley will head to the bench for the first time since April 15 while Boston sends southpaw Sean Newcomb to the hill Wednesday. With Raley out of the lineup, Dylan Moore will pick up a start in right field.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Homers in win

Raley went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 11-7 win over Cincinnati. Raley got the Mariners on the board in the fourth inning with his second home run of the year, tying the game 2-2. The 30-year-old had been struggling coming into Thursday, going just 3-for-29 (.129) over his previous 10 games. Raley's now batting .163 on the season with a .587 OPS, seven RBI, six runs scored and a pair of stolen bases across 57 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Sitting against southpaw

Raley isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. Raley and his .572 career OPS against left-handers will stay put in the dugout for the beginning of Saturday's game, as Robbie Ray is due to toe the slab for San Francisco. Cal Raleigh will serve as Seattle's designated hitter while Raley sits, allowing Mitch Garver to start behind the plate and bat fifth.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Out against lefty

Raley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. With the Athletics sending a southpaw (JP Sears) to the bump for the second time in three games, Raley will once again take a seat. Mitch Garver will replace Raley in the lineup at designated hitter.
... See More ... See Less
  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Could see action against southpaws

Manager Dan Wilson is open to giving Raley some plate appearances against left-handed pitching, and the lefty-hitting slugger is projected to bat fifth in Seattle's lineup this season, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Raley is hitting .278 with two stolen bases over 18 at-bats this spring, and he appears to have a fairly clear path to steady reps at first base following Justin Turner's offseason departure. Donovan Solano represents Raley's main competition for playing time at the cold corner, but Jude notes the former could see action at designated hitter and third base. It's worth noting Rowdy Tellez is having a strong spring, but he's currently a non-roster invitee and isn't guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster.
