Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Aiming for August return
Rotowire
Rangers GM Ross Fenstermaker said Tuesday that Walcott could be ready for game action in August, "if all things according to plan" in his rehab from the internal brace procedure he underwent on his right elbow, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Walcott could return to hitting within a 5-to-6 month timeline, but it'll likely be longer before he's cleared to take the field. The 19-year-old is Texas' top prospect, and getting him back into game action, even in a limited capacity, would set him up nicely heading into 2027. Walcott spent the 2025 campaign at Double-A Frisco, where he totaled 13 homers, 32 steals and a .255/.355/.386 slash line in 124 contests.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Undergoes internal brace surgery
Rotowire
Walcott underwent internal brace surgery on his right elbow last week, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
The good news is he did not require a full Tommy John surgery. The bad news is he will still be sidelined for 5-to-6 months before resuming hitting, so he could still miss the entire season. One of the game's top prospects, Walcott slashed .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs and 32 stolen bases over 124 games in 2025 at Double-A Frisco. He will turn 20 in March.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Out for 2026 after elbow surgery
Rotowire
Walcott will undergo UCL surgery on his right elbow and will miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
The hope is that Walcott needs internal brace surgery rather than a full Tommy John repair, but the Rangers won't know until he has the procedure in a few days. The former would give him a slight chance to return late in the season. Slated to turn 20 in March, Walcott is one of the game's elite prospects and could have pushed for a major-league debut this season. He slashed .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs and 32 stolen bases over 124 games in 2025 at Double-A Frisco as a 19-year-old.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Invited to spring training
Rotowire
The Rangers have extended Walcott an invitation to big-league camp during spring training, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Walcott was in major-league camp for the Rangers last year, too, before being an early cut. He might stick around longer this year, but the young shortstop will again head back to the minors for the start of the 2026 campaign. Slated to turn 20 in March, Walcott slashed .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs and 32 stolen bases over 124 games in 2025 at Double-A Frisco. Walcott isn't a finished product but has some of the highest fantasy upside of any position player in the minors.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Finishing strong for RoughRiders
Rotowire
Walcott is slashing .338/.456/.473 with two home runs, eight steals, a 16.7 percent walk rate and an 11.1 percent strikeout rate in his last 74 at-bats for Double-A Frisco.
The pitching at Double-A is pretty watered down at this time of year, but it's still notable that Walcott is closing the year strong after he slumped for a couple months from mid-June through mid-August, when he logged a .581 OPS. On the year, the toolsy Bahamian infielder is slashing .251/.353/.386 with 13 home runs, 32 steals, a 12.9 percent walk rate and a 19.8 percent strikeout rate in 120 games as easily the youngest qualified hitter at Double-A -- Nelson Rada is the second-youngest qualified hitter at Double-A and he's almost seven months older than Walcott. It was announced this week that Walcott will play in the Arizona Fall League this year, which should set the stage for a big-league debut sometime next summer. Walcott has started 17 games at third base and 82 games at shortstop this year.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Seeing time at third base
Rotowire
Walcott started at third base and went 2-for-4 with three steals for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday.
Walcott, who has played mostly shortstop this season, made his seventh start at third base. All seven have come over the last month. At 6-foot-4, Walcott can be viewed as a slugger first, but the prospect also has a speed component and uses his long legs to eat up distance on the basepaths. The 19-year-old Walcott has 15 steals (caught five times) through 66 games.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Accessing power with regularity
Rotowire
Walcott is slashing .269/.333/.612 with six home runs, five doubles, four steals and a 17.3 percent strikeout rate over his last 16 games for Double-A Frisco.
The Bahamian phenom is the youngest active player at Double-A and understandably got off to a modest start to the year, but he's accessing his huge raw power with regularity over the past few weeks. Walcott is slashing .249/.341/.449 with eight home runs, 11 steals, an 11.2 percent walk rate and a 22 percent strikeout rate in 47 games for the RoughRiders and he doesn't turn 20 until spring training next year.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Solid start at Double-A
Rotowire
Walcott is slashing .245/.363/.372 with two home runs, six steals, a 14.2 percent walk rate and a 21.2 percent strikeout rate in 25 games for Double-A Frisco.
Even though he played five games at Double-A at the end of last year, Walcott, who turned 19 in March, is the second-youngest player at Double-A (behind Ethan Salas), and he's two years younger than the youngest pitcher at the level. He has plus-plus raw power, but Walcott has been making too much weak contact early on (34.5 IFFB%, 31.7 Soft%) as he gets adjusted to this challenging step up in competition. Walcott has yet to play a position in the field other than shortstop in 2025.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Reassigned to minors camp
Rotowire
The Rangers reassigned Walcott to minor-league camp Monday.
Walcott was one of a host of roster cuts for the Rangers. Slated to turn 19 later this month, Walcott made a great impression at the plate this spring during his few opportunities, going 4-for-8 with three doubles and a home run. He's one of the top prospects in all of baseball and is likely headed back to Double-A Frisco to begin the 2025 campaign.

Rotowire
The Rangers have extended Walcott an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.
Walcott won't turn 19 until March, but the Rangers will let their top prospect get his feet wet in spring training after he slashed .265/.344/.452 with 11 home runs and 27 stolen bases between High-A Hickory and Double-A Frisco in 2024. Walcott is likely headed back to Frisco to begin the 2025 campaign.

Rangers' Sebastian Walcott: Gets call to High-A
Rotowire
The Rangers promoted Walcott from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to High-A Hickory on Sunday.
At just 17 years and five months old, Walcott will become the youngest player in the South Atlantic League. Walcott received the green light to bypass an assignment to Single-A Down East after he slashed .273/.325/.524 with seven home runs and nine stolen bases across 157 plate appearances in the ACL.
