Guerrero (elbow) threw a 25-pitch live batting practice session Aug. 12 and could soon head out on a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports.
Guerrero is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list later this week, but he'll need additional time to complete a rehab assignment before making his return to the Boston bullpen. Before landing on the shelf June 28 due to a right elbow strain, Guerrero compiled a 4.15 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 10:14 K:BB in 17.1 innings over 13 appearances.

Guerrero landed on the injured list in late June with a strained right elbow, and his move to the IL will ensure he remains on the shelf until at least Aug. 27. Guerrero has spent most of the season in Triple-A, where he has a 4.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 16:11 K:BB across 20.1 innings. He's made four appearances out of the Red Sox's bullpen this season and has allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four across 5.1 innings.

Guerrero was up with the big club for just one day and will be sent back to the minors after giving up an earned run on two hits and three walks over 1.1 innings in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Right-hander Zack Kelly was recalled from Triple-A to take Guerrero's spot in the bullpen.
