  • Royals' Javier Vaz: Move past hand injury

Vaz (fingers) has produced a .238/.304/.262 slash line with zero home runs and three stolen bases in 10 games since being activated from Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 7-day injured list April 22.

Vaz began the campaign on the injured list after fracturing two fingers on his right hand in early March, but he made a speedy recovery and was cleared to make his 2025 debut less than three weeks into the Texas League season. Though he's gotten off to a slow start to the season at the plate, the injury doesn't seem to be affecting him in the field, as he's made eight starts at second base and one in left field.

  • Royals' Javier Vaz: Suffers fractured fingers

Vaz fractured two fingers in his right hand while fielding a ball Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The Royals reassigned Vaz to minor-league camp Saturday to begin his rehab, though it will be a few weeks before he's able to throw a ball again. The 24-year-old infielder has slashed .267/.374/.381 across 646 plate appearances since reaching Double-A in 2023, and he could make a push for Triple-A once his fingers recover.

Vaz will be making the jump to Double-A this week along with two of the Royals' other top position prospects in outfielder Gavin Cross and third baseman Cayden Wallace. Over 388 plate appearances at Quad Cities this season, the 22-year-old middle infielder slashed .267/.364/.387 with six home runs and 26 stolen bases in 86 games.
