Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Demoted after loss
Lucas (3-3) was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo after being charged with the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Orioles. He gave up four runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout over 2.2 innings.
It was a long day for Toronto's pitching staff, which surrendered 16 runs on 19 hits, including four homers. It was the fifth start in six MLB appearances this year for Lucas, who has a 6.66 ERA and 23:12 K:BB across 24.1 innings. Paxton Schultz was called up to provide bullpen help for Tuesday's nightcap.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Called up, starting in twin bill
The Blue Jays recalled Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo, and he'll start in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Orioles in Baltimore.
Lucas will rejoin Toronto for the first time since late May, after he had previously turned in a 5.82 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 21.2 innings over five appearances (four starts) with the big club prior to being demoted to Triple-A. His results with Buffalo haven't been much better (5.35 ERA, 1.48 WHIP in 33.2 frames), but Toronto will look for the 28-year-old southpaw to eat some innings in the front end of the twin bill before he likely heads back to Triple-A after the outing. Lucas will be taking the hill on three days' rest after making a three-inning start for Buffalo this past Friday, so the Blue Jays could keep his workload somewhat in check.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Back in action for Triple-A club
Lucas (undisclosed) struck out three while giving up one hit and one walk over three scoreless innings Saturday in Triple-A Buffalo's 3-2 win over Omaha after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list earlier in the day.
Lucas had started in six of his previous seven appearances with Buffalo prior to being shelved with the unspecified injury, but he was used out of the bullpen in his return to action Saturday, working in tandem with CJ Van Eyk, who covered the first 3.1 innings. Before his recent absence due to the injury, Lucas had made five appearances (four starts) for Toronto earlier this season, logging a 5.82 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 21.2 innings. Unless additional injuries strike the Toronto rotation, Lucas likely won't be in line for a starting assignment with the big club in the near future.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Shelved at Triple-A
Triple-A Buffalo placed Lucas on its 7-day injured list Tuesday due to an unspecified injury.
Lucas' placement on the IL came a few days after he surrendered three earned runs on two hits and one walk over 1.2 innings in his first appearance with Buffalo since being demoted June 1. The southpaw previously made four starts with the big club earlier this season, but he's unlikely to receive another look with the Blue Jays anytime soon now that he's dealing with an injury and with Max Scherzer (thumb) tracking toward a return from the 60-day injured list next week.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Stifles A's in Saturday's win
Lucas (3-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 8-7 victory over the A's, allowing four hits and a walk over 4.2 scoreless innings of relief. He struck out three.
The southpaw entered the game with one out in the second inning after opener Braydon Fisher coughed up five runs, and Lucas looked like he would have no more success than the right-hander did, quickly loading the bases on three straight singles. Lucas buckled down and escaped the jam, however, and cruised through the next four frames while the Toronto offense took control. This was expected to be just a spot outing in the rotation for the 28-year-old, who tossed 70 pitches (46 strikes), so he could be optioned right back to Triple-A Buffalo to make room for a fresh bullpen arm. If Lucas does stick around, however, Saturday's performance could give him a case to push Eric Lauer for the fifth starter role.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Returns to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Lucas to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
The left-hander followed opener Braydon Fisher against the A's on Saturday and picked up the win after firing 4.2 scoreless innings, but he won't stick in the majors with Erik Swanson (forearm) returning from the injured list Sunday. Lucas has been boom-or-bust in his five MLB appearances this season, as he's covered 15 frames in three scoreless outings but has surrendered 14 runs in his other two starts.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Recalled from Buffalo
The Blue Jays recalled Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.
Lucas was demoted to Buffalo in late April after posting a 7.41 ERA in 17 innings through his first four starts. His performance in Triple-A since then hasn't been much better (5.88 ERA in 26 innings), but he'll get the call back to Toronto anyway to replace Jose Urena, who was DFA'd by the Jays in a corresponding move. Lucas will presumably work as a long reliever while in the big leagues.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Optioned after another rough start
The Blue Jays optioned Lucas to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
After not allowing a run in his first two starts of the season, Lucas was pummeled for 14 runs across 6.2 frames covering his last two outings, resulting in a trip back to the minors. Lucas' turn in the rotation comes up this weekend against the Yankees, and it's unclear how the Blue Jays plan to fill the slot.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Tagged for six runs in loss
Lucas (2-2) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 1.2 innings with five strikeouts.
The Toronto southpaw was pummeled again for a second consecutive start, as he tossed 55 pitches while failing to get out of the second inning. After opening the season with 10.1 scoreless innings across two wins, Lucas has coughed up 14 runs in 6.2 innings over his last two outings. Overall, the 28-year-old now sports an ugly 7.41 ERA and 1.53 WHIP with a 19:9 K:BB. Things aren't looking much easier ahead, as Lucas currently lines up to make his next start against the Yankees on the road next weekend.

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Confirmed for Tuesday start
Lucas will start Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Lucas was initially slotted in to start Monday's series opener against the Red Sox, but it'll be Jose Berrios who toes the rubber Monday, pushing Lucas to Tuesday. The 28-year-old performed well in his first outing of the 2025 season Wednesday against Washington, hurling five scoreless frames while striking out three on 74 pitches in the win.
