  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Shifts to bullpen

Seymour struck out a batter and allowed one earned run on three hits over one inning of relief in Sunday's 10-2 loss to the Dodgers. Seymour had started in each of his previous three appearances, but after he turned in an 8.68 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 9.1 innings in those outings, he was moved to the bullpen. The Giants called on Seymour to mop up in the ninth inning of Sunday's blowout loss, and most of the 26-year-old righty's appearances for the remainder of the season are likely to come in lower-leverage spots.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Early exit vs. Arizona

Seymour (1-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs on six hits across 1.1 innings. He struck out one. It was a rough day for Seymour, who gave up a home run to Geraldo Perdomo to lead off the game before giving up three more runs before departing with one out in the second. The 26-year-old Seymour has given up nine runs across 9.1 innings in three starts with the Giants. He's currently scheduled to face the Diamondbacks again in his next outing, though he could return to the bullpen when Carson Whisenhunt (back) is able to rejoin the rotation.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Shows improvement in first win

Seymour (1-2) notched the win Friday against the Cardinals, allowing one run on two hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out two. Seymour threw a season-high five innings, and it was a considerable step forward after he yielded a season-worst four runs in his last start. The 26-year-old right-hander is still in the process of building up his pitch count while filling in for the injured Landen Roupp (knee), as the former tossed a season-high 75 pitches Friday. Seymour will bring a 4.25 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB across 29.2 innings into his next outing, which is set to come against the division-rival Diamondbacks.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Receiving another start

Seymour is slated to start Friday's game against the Cardinals in St. Louis. He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation despite underwhelming in his first MLB start this past Saturday, when he took a loss to the Orioles after giving up four earned runs on five hits and two walks over three innings. Altogether, Seymour holds a 4.74 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB across 24.2 frames in the big leagues. Keeping the ball in the yard has proven to be a challenge for the righty, who has already yielded eight home runs.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Struggles through short outing

Seymour (0-2) took the loss against Baltimore on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over three innings. Seymour's first MLB start didn't go according to plan, though he was able to begin the game with two scoreless innings before serving up a pair of two-run homers in the third. It's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation after making his first 10 appearances out of the bullpen, but the Giants have a need for a fifth starter with Landen Roupp (knee) likely to be sidelined until at least late September. Over 24.2 big-league innings this season, Seymour has a 4.74 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: First MLB start on tap

The Giants named Seymour their starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Orioles at Oracle Park, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After turning in a 3.74 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB in 21.2 innings while making his first 10 MLB appearances as a reliever, Seymour will get the chance to make his first big-league start Saturday while the Giants have an opening in the rotation due to Landen Roupp's (knee) continued absence. Seymour's most recent appearance came Wednesday versus the Cubs, but he tossed just 16 pitches in that outing and should be reasonably well rested. However, given that Seymour hasn't covered more than three innings in the majors or minors since June 19, the Giants may not allow him to work deep enough into Saturday's start to qualify for a win.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Fans three in bulk relief

Seymour surrendered one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out three across three innings in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Padres. Seymour worked in long relief once again, logging three innings for the fourth time in nine appearances this season. The right-hander threw 33 of his 54 pitches for strikes and recorded at least three strikeouts for the third time. He owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB, allowing six home runs in 20.2 innings.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Works long relief Saturday

Seymour allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out one over three innings in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Nationals. Seymour worked in long relief once again, giving up two singles and two doubles while throwing 28 of his 44 pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old has surrendered five runs in his last eight innings and overall owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 12:4 K:BB across 14 innings in six appearances.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Earns first hold Monday

Seymour picked up a hold in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Pirates, allowing two earned runs on one home run and one walk while striking out two across two innings. Seymour retired the side in order in the sixth inning, but he gave up a walk and a subsequent home run in the seventh. Still, the right-hander protected the lead and earned his first hold in five big-league appearances. During that span, he has allowed six earned runs -- including five homers -- on 13 hits and four walks while striking out 11 over 11 innings.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Back in majors

The Giants recalled Seymour from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. The right-hander was sent down to Triple-A in early July after giving up two earned runs over four frames in his first two MLB appearances, but he'll rejoin San Francisco early on in the second half. Seymour has primarily worked as a starter at Sacramento this season and has a 3.86 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 90:39 K:BB over 77 innings, so he could be a candidate to fill the rotation spot vacated by Hayden Birdsong, who was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move Tuesday. Until the Giants require a fifth starter again, Seymour might serve as a long man out of the bullpen.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Set for first MLB stint

The Giants recalled Seymour from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Seymour joined the Giants' system back in 2022 via trade, and after working his way through the organization, Seymour will join San Francisco's active roster for the first time in his career. He worked exclusively as a starter at Triple-A, logging a 3.89 ERA and an 83:37 K:BB over 74 innings. While the Giants aren't in need of another starting pitcher, Seymour could replace Hayden Birdsong at the back end of the rotation if Birdsong's struggles persist.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Shipped out to minor-league camp

The Giants optioned Seymour to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Seymour was added to the Giants' 40-man roster over the winter, but he didn't make a serious run at claiming a spot in the big club's Opening Day rotation this spring. He'll return to Sacramento, where he turned in a 4.82 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 132:60 K:BB over 134.1 innings in 2024.
