  • Orioles' Colin Selby: Shelved with hamstring strain

    The Orioles placed Selby on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a left hamstring strain. Baltimore called up right-hander Yaramil Hiraldo from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Selby in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster. After getting recalled from Norfolk shortly before the All-Star break, Selby gave up three earned runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out two over 5.1 innings in his five relief appearances before going down with the injury.

    The Royals traded Selby to the Orioles on Thursday in exchange for cash, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Selby will remain in Triple-A upon joining his new organization, though he will once again hold a spot on a 40-man roster. The 26-year-old righty was DFA'd by Kansas City on Saturday after putting up a 6.23 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 21.2 innings with Triple-A Omaha, and he'll fill in as organizational depth for the O's. Kyle Bradish (elbow) was moved to the 60-day IL in order to clear space on Baltimore's 40-man roster.

Though he's not seen as one of the Pirates' better pitching prospects, Selby's presence on the 40-man roster should give him a chance at making his big-league debut later in 2023 if Pittsburgh has a need for another bullpen arm.

    Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Selby has been shut down at Triple-A Indianapolis due to a shoulder injury, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Selby hasn't resumed a throwing program since Indianapolis placed him on the 7-day injured list May 19 with a previously undisclosed injury.
