  • White Sox's Tanner Murray: Moved to 60-day IL

The White Sox transferred Murray (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Monday. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Randal Grichuk, who signed a one-year major-league deal with the White Sox on Monday. Murray suffered a left shoulder dislocation and fracture while making a diving catch in left field against the Nationals in late April. His recovery timeline was initially set at 4-to-6 months, which means he won't be available to return until at least late August.

  • White Sox's Tanner Murray: Called up to majors for first time

The White Sox recalled Murray from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. Outfielder Everson Pereira (ankle) landed on the 10-day IL on Sunday, and Murray was summoned from Charlotte to take his place. Murray is a super-utility type who has seen action all over the infield and in the outfield during his time in the minors. He had a nice spring with a .952 OPS, two homers, seven RBI and one stolen base for the big club and was slashing .304/.467/.606 with two homers, seven RBI and two thefts across six games at Triple-A prior to being recalled. Murray is starting at shortstop and batting seventh in what will be his MLB debut Sunday.

  • White Sox's Tanner Murray: Overcomes finger injury

Murray (finger) went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI while appearing in three Cactus League games last week. Murray had previously exited a March 7 game after being struck in the right pinky finger by a pitch, but he was cleared for action just over a week later. The 26-year-old infielder finished Cactus League play with a .238/.333/.619 slash line to go with two home runs and one stolen base across 27 plate appearances. He'll open the season at Triple-A Charlotte but should make his MLB debut at some point in 2026 after being added to the White Sox's 40-man roster over the winter.

  • White Sox's Tanner Murray: Moved to minors

The White Sox optioned Murray (finger) to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Murray exited his most recent Cactus League game Saturday after being hit by a pitch on his right pinky finger, but that injury likely wasn't a major factor in him failing to win a spot on the White Sox's Opening Day roster. The 26-year-old infielder has yet to make his MLB debut and will need to show improved production at the Triple-A level before garnering serious consideration for a promotion to the majors with Chicago. As a member of the Rays organization last season, Murray slashed .241/.299/.400 with 18 home runs and five stolen bases over 572 plate appearances at Triple-A Durham.

  • White Sox's Tanner Murray: Day-to-day with finger injury

Murray was removed from Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners after being struck by a pitch on his right pinky finger, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Murray was hit by a pitch in the second inning and proceeded to take his base and steal second base before being removed from the contest. The good news for Murray is that X-rays came back negative, though the injury could limit his playing time over the next couple of days. Murray was acquired by the White Sox from the Rays in November after spending the entire 2025 season with Triple-A Durham, where he slashed .241/.299/.400 with five steals (in nine attempts), 18 home runs and 58 RBI in 572 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Tanner Murray: Sent to White Sox

The Rays selected Murray's contract from Triple-A Durham and traded him and Everson Pereira (back) to the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for pitchers Yoendrys Gomez and Steven Wilson, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Murray has yet to make his big-league debut after being selected by Tampa Bay in the fourth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft. The 26-year-old spent all of last season with Triple-A Durham, posting a .241/.299/.400 slash line with 18 home runs, 58 RBI and five stolen bases over 572 plate appearances. The power was a bit of a surprise -- Murray's previous minor-league season high in homers was seven -- but he may be a late bloomer in that regard. His most useful trait is probably his versatility, as he can play in both the infield and outfield.
