  • Dodgers' Buddy Kennedy: Booted from 40-man roster

Kennedy was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Monday. Kennedy will head to the waiver wire following the return of Enrique Hernandez (elbow) from the injured list. Kennedy was claimed by LA on Aug. 15 and went 1-for-17 with one RBI and one run scored over seven matchups, and he will presumably end up with Triple-A Oklahoma City if he fails to draw interest on waivers.

  • Blue Jays' Buddy Kennedy: Booted from 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Kennedy for assignment Tuesday. Kennedy was cut loose to make room for Andres Gimenez (ankle), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Kennedy was not getting much playing time in Toronto, as he appeared in just six of 11 games during his time with the big club. Across 14 plate appearances, the 26-year-old went 1-for-12 in his short stint with the Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays' Buddy Kennedy: Selected from Triple-A

The Blue Jays selected Kennedy's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Since signing a minor-league deal with the Jays in mid-July, Kennedy has slashed just .207/.309/.259 with five RBI across 68 plate appearances with Buffalo. Despite his poor recent output, he'll join the major-league roster to provide Toronto with a glove capable of covering all three bases and left field. The Blue Jays designated catcher Ali Sanchez for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Blue Jays' Buddy Kennedy: Gets MiLB pact from Blue Jays

Kennedy has gone 1-for-16 with one walk, two runs and one RBI in four games at Triple-A Buffalo since he signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Kennedy elected free agency after being booted from the Phillies' 40-man roster earlier this month and quickly found an opportunity in a new organization. The infielder sports a career .193/.287/.296 batting line over parts of four big-league seasons.

  • Buddy Kennedy: Hits open market

Kennedy elected free agency Saturday. The Phillies designated him for assignment, and rather than being outrighted to Triple-A, Kennedy elected to hit the open market. The righty-hitting Kennedy is better against lefties (career 73 wRC+) than righties (career 55 wRC+), and his lack of defensive utility has left him on the periphery of the Phillies, Tigers and Diamondbacks depth charts in recent years.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Removed from 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Buddy Kennedy for assignment Monday. The transaction clears a spot on the active roster for Bryce Harper's (wrist) return from the 10-day injured list. Kennedy went hitless in seven at-bats for the Phillies and hadn't started a game in nearly a week.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Contract selected

The Phillies selected Kennedy's contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday. Kennedy earned a promotion after slashing.283/.388/.447 with eight home runs and a 41:31 K:BB over 61 games with Lehigh Valley, although he has cooled off in June with a .185/.323/.259 batting line. The 26-year-old will serve as a reserve infielder.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Back with Philly

Kennedy signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Tuesday. Kennedy elected free agency after clearing waivers Tuesday, but he will immediately reunite with the club and report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 26-year-old turned in an .835 OPS across 464 plate appearances in the minors last season and should get regular playing time at Lehigh Valley while serving as organizational depth.

  • Buddy Kennedy: Elects free agency

Kennedy cleared waivers Tuesday and elected free agency, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Kennedy was designated for assignment Thursday after failing to make the Phillies out of spring training, and he will now seek out an opportunity with another organization rather than heading to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 26-year-old owns a .608 OPS across 149 plate appearances in his big-league career, but he should be able to at least attract a minor-league deal after slashing .274/.375/.460 in Triple-A last year.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Booted from 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Kennedy for assignment Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. The Phillies told Kennedy earlier this week that he would not be on the Opening Day roster and the club was unable to find a trade partner. He could draw interest on waivers.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Misses out on Opening Day roster

The Phillies will attempt to trade Kennedy before Opening Day, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Kennedy did not make the Opening Day roster, but the club has received trade interest in the 26-year-old and will attempt to swing a deal. If a trade doesn't come to fruition, Kennedy will be designated for assignment, as he is out of minor-league options.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Sent to minors

The Phillies optioned Kennedy to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. The 25-year-old was called up by Philadelphia on Sept. 6 but will return to Triple-A with Edmundo Sosa (back) being activated from the injured list Tuesday. Kennedy appeared in seven games during his brief time in the majors and went 2-for-10 with a double, two walks, two RBI and a run scored.

  • Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Traded to Phillies

The Phillies acquired Kennedy from the Tigers on Friday in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The official transactions log on MLB.com had listed Kennedy as having been outrighted by the Tigers after clearing waivers, but that was erroneous and has since been deleted. Instead, he's headed to Lehigh Valley, where he will give the Phillies some infield depth. Kennedy has slashed .205/.294/.316 in 46 games over parts of three seasons in the majors.

  • Tigers' Buddy Kennedy: DFA'd by Detroit

The Tigers designated Kennedy for assignment Monday. Kennedy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on April 30 after appearing in six games for the Tigers and going 2-for-10 with one stolen base, one home run and four RBI. The 25-year-old had been performing at a below-league-average level with Toledo for the season, slashing .234/.331/.383 (88 wRC+) across 163 plate appearances. Kennedy could remain with the organization if he clears waivers, but he'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy, who was called up from Triple-A on Monday.

  • Tigers' Buddy Kennedy: Optioned to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Kennedy to Triple-A Toledo on Monday. Kennedy is being sent out to make room for Andy Ibanez (hamstring), who will be activated from the injured list prior to Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals. He's 2-for-10 with one homer and one stolen base during his brief time with the big club this season.

  • Tigers' Buddy Kennedy: Launches first homer

Kennedy went 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBI and a walk in Sunday's win over Minnesota. Kennedy brought home a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning before drilling a two-run shot in the third. It was his first MLB home run since the 2022 campaign. The 25-year-old slashed .288/.354/.509 with nine extra-base hits in 15 games with Triple-A Toledo prior to being called up Saturday.

  • Tigers' Buddy Kennedy: Claimed by Detroit

The Tigers claimed Kennedy off waivers from the Cardinals on Thursday. Kennedy was DFA'd by St. Louis on Tuesday to make room for Brandon Crawford, and Kennedy will now look to make a name for himself in Detroit. The 25-year-old owns a .592 career OPS through 123 big-league plate appearances, but he slashed .318/.444/.481 with Arizona's Triple-A affiliate in 2023. Kennedy will likely return to Triple-A to begin the new season, but he could play for the Tigers at some point if his bat stays hot in the minors. Andre Lipcius was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Buddy Kennedy: Designated for assignment

Kennedy was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Tuesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Brandon Crawford. Kennedy was a waiver claim from the Athletics earlier this offseason and will now go through the waiver process again.

  • Diamondbacks' Buddy Kennedy: Optioned to Triple-A

Arizona optioned Kennedy to Triple-A Reno on Friday. Kennedy went 4-for-24 in 10 games after being selected from Reno in mid-August, and he'll now return to the minors in favor of Emmanuel Rivera. There remains a chance Kennedy can return to Arizona if he heats up again in the minors, but odds are he finishes the season in Triple-A.

  • Diamondbacks' Buddy Kennedy: Joins Saturday's lineup

Kennedy was added to the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta. Kennedy is serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh Saturday after David Peralta was traded to the Rays. Kennedy has gone 2-for-5 with a walk and two strikeouts over two games since the All-Star break.
