Carlson spent all of 2024 at Double-A with the Brewers, finishing the year with a 4.25 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 48.2 innings. The 26-year-old righty will presumably remain in Double-A after switching organizations, but a promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City is certainly possible.

Carlson moved to the bullpen full-time last season with the Mariners' High-A affiliate, and he posted a 5.25 ERA and 1.21 WHIP while striking out 61 batters across 48 innings. The 24-year-old righty gives Milwaukee additional bullpen depth in its farm system, and Carlson will likely head to High-A Wisconsin or Double-A Biloxi to begin 2024.

Carlson missed the first month of the season while he dealt with left knee patellar tendinitis. The 2017 second-round pick is returning to Modesto to begin the 2022 campaign after he turned in a 4.77 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 100 innings for the Single-A affiliate last year.

The momentous occasion, which saw Carlson throw 20 pitches against fellow minor leaguers, marked the right-hander's first time facing hitters in 32 months. Carlson experienced several setbacks during the process, including a scare last August where the pitcher thought he may have torn his ulnar collateral ligament a second time. The 21-year-old has just three innings of AZL Rookie-level ball under his belt so far as a professional, and given his extended recovery, the organization will proceed with caution in terms of his activity level over the coming months.

Carlson (elbow) underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Monday and could be sidelined through the 2019 campaign, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
The 19-year-old Carlson, a 2017 second-round pick, was only able to pitch three innings across two appearances in the Arizona Rookie League last season before experiencing soreness in his right elbow. The issue persisted into this spring, which prevented Carlson from seeing any game action. He got as far as throwing a bullpen session in late May, but he wasn't able to progress beyond that point. Given the timing of the surgery, it appears likely that Carlson's next realistic opportunity of taking the mound will come in the winter of 2019 or spring of 2020.

He is not dealing with any known injury, so this is likely just a situation where the Mariners don't think the 19-year-old is quite ready to get full-season hitters out. Carlson could be assigned to Low-A in the coming months or the team could wait until June to assign him to a short-season league.
