  • Rays' Shane Baz: Thrashed in 10th loss

Baz (8-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out three. Baz got off to a disastrous beginning, watching Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton lift three straight home runs in the opening inning, and things didn't get better for the hurler thereafter. The right-hander served up a career-high five homers Tuesday, and he threw a season-low three innings as well as 65 pitches before his night came to a close. Baz has a 6.85 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 57:17 K:BB across 47.1 innings since the beginning of July; therefore, he'll be tough to trust in next week's scheduled start in Cleveland.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: No help in loss

Baz (8-9) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Athletics. Baz had his longest start since he went seven innings July 1. The right-hander didn't get any help Tuesday, nor did he do himself any favors by allowing four or more runs for the fourth time in five starts. He's now at a 4.93 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 140:50 K:BB through 135 innings across 24 starts. He's already exceeded the 118.2 innings he had across all levels in 2024, so it's possible the 26-year-old is wearing down a bit. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Yankees.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Goes four innings vs. Angels

Baz did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Angels, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks across four innings. He struck out nine. After holding the Angels scoreless in his first two innings, Baz unraveled with two outs in the third, giving up an RBI single to Nolan Schanuel before Mike Trout launched a game-tying, three-run homer. While Baz has had his strikeout stuff working of late, logging 17 punchouts over nine innings in his last two starts, he's struggled to provide much length -- the right-hander has failed to make it past five innings in any of his previous four outings. Overall, Baz sports a 4.92 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 133:48 K:BB across 23 starts (128 innings) this season. He's currently lined up to face the A's on the road his next time out.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Tough sledding in eighth loss

Baz (8-8) took the loss Friday against the Dodgers, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out eight. Baz at least managed to register 16 whiffs and fan eight to salvage what was an otherwise poor outing overall. The eight hits allowed were one shy of a season worst, and the 26-year-old right-hander walked multiple batters in his fifth straight start. Baz's impressive run to open the campaign is becoming a distant memory at this point -- he posted a 2.45 ERA through April 25 -- and he'll carry a mediocre 4.79 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 124:46 K:BB through 124 frames into a scheduled road matchup against the Angels in Anaheim.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Fans five in loss

Baz (8-7) yielded two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Reds. Baz coughed up a pair of runs in the first inning before settling in to finish his outing with four scoreless frames. He's now lost four consecutive starts, registering a 5.90 ERA during that span. Baz generated 15 swinging strikes on 100 total pitches Sunday, including seven with his fastball that averaged 96.8 mph. He now owns a 4.61 ERA with a 116:44 K:BB through 119 frames. Baz's next outing is projected to be at home against the Dodgers.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Clobbered by White Sox

Baz (8-6) conceded eight runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings to take the loss in Monday's contest against the White Sox. He struck out four. Nothing went right for the Tampa Bay right-hander, as he allowed a career-worst eight earned runs in this 87-pitch disaster. Baz did not have his sharpest stuff, managing to generate just six whiffs. The 26-year-old has been prone to implosions this season, with this marking the sixth time he has allowed five or more runs out of 20 total starts. Baz will carry a 4.66 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 111:42 K:BB across 114 total innings into a dangerous matchup at Cincinnati this weekend.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Tosses eight scoreless in win

Baz (8-3) earned the win against the Royals on Thursday, allowing three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over eight scoreless innings. Baz was dominant, throwing 69 of 97 pitches for strikes and retiring 19 straight batters at one point after giving up a leadoff double in the first inning. It marked the longest outing of the 26-year-old's major-league career, and he'll wrap up June with a 4-0 record across five starts. On the season, he sports a 4.37 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 86:35 K:BB over 90.2 innings and is slated for a home matchup with the Athletics next week.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Comes away with second straight win

Baz (7-3) earned the win against the Tigers on Friday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six across 5.1 innings. Baz kept the Tigers off the board through the first two frames before yielding a three-run homer to Riley Greene in the third. Baz was tagged for two more runs in the sixth after being lifted, but he got enough run support to come away with his second straight win. Baz's 4.79 ERA (across 82.2 innings) is seventh highest among qualified starters in the American League this season, but his seven wins are tied for sixth in the AL. He'll look to make it three wins in a row in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Royals.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Works around four walks in win

Baz (6-3) earned the win Sunday against the Mets, yielding three hits and four walks over 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out six. The Tampa Bay right-hander produced his first scoreless outing since April 25 at San Diego en route to securing his fifth quality start. Baz generated a solid 15 whiffs out of his 106 total pitches to mark his third straight outing with five or more Ks. With this effort, the 25-year-old lowered his ERA from 4.97 to 4.54 through 77.1 total frames. Baz lines up to make his next start in next weekend's home series against the Tigers, who rank sixth in total runs scored.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Falters late in no-decision

Baz completed 5.1 innings against Boston on Monday, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five batters in a no-decision. Baz was excellent through four innings, giving up zero runs and allowing just three baserunners. The right-hander was struck by a 111.2 mph comebacker off the bat of Roman Anthony in the bottom of the fourth however, and he then gave up a run in the fifth. Baz still entered the sixth frame in line for a victory, but he allowed the first two batters he faced in that inning to reach base (on a walk and a hit-by-pitch), and both came around to score after his departure. He's been mediocre but consistent in his past three outings, giving up exactly three runs while completing between 5.0 and 5.2 frames in each start. Baz's numbers on the campaign -- including a 4.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP -- are also mediocre, though he's managed to compile a 5-3 record. He'll look to improve upon that mark in his next start, which lines up to be a tough road test against the Mets.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Narrowly misses quality start

Baz didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Astros after allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three. Baz got just four whiffs, but he did come just one out short of what could've been his first quality start since April 25. Although it was the first time the right-hander didn't issue a walk in his last eight starts, Baz still owns a rough 7.26 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB over his last six outings (31 innings). After posting a 2.45 ERA through his first five appearances in 2025, Baz should have a prime opportunity to string together quality outings his next time out versus a Rangers team that has a miserable .602 OPS in the month of May.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Earns fourth win

Baz (4-3) came away with the win against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four across 5.2 innings. Baz was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning and kept the Blue Jays off the board through the first five frames of Saturday's game. His lone blemish came in the sixth when he yielded a solo home run to Vladimir Guerrero, and Baz was taken out of the game before recording the final out of the frame for what would have been his fifth quality start of the season. Still, the 25-year-old right-hander got enough support from the bullpen to earn his first win since April 25 against the Padres. He'll take a 4.94 ERA and 1.39 WHIP (across 54.2 innings) into his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Astros.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Coughs up five runs in loss

Baz (3-3) took the loss Sunday at Miami, allowing five runs on nine hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out two. Despite generating a solid 13 whiffs out of 96 total pitches, Baz fanned just two batters. This outing continues a tough stretch for the Tampa Bay right-hander, as he's conceded 21 runs on 30 hits across his last 19.2 innings (9.61 ERA). Through 49 total innings, Baz sports an unsightly 5.33 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB. He'll look to right the ship in his next start, which currently lines up to be against the Blue Jays at home next weekend.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Gives up pair of homers

Baz allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six in 4.2 innings Tuesday against the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision. Baz jumped out to a great start by retiring seven in a row while striking out four. His second time through the order wasn't as successful, as Bo Bichette and Daulton Varsho took him deep in the third and fourth frames. Baz failed to make it to five innings for a second straight outing and has struggled after a really strong beginning to the season. Over his last five starts, Baz owns a 7.88 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB. He'll aim to bounce back in a road matchup versus the Marlins this weekend.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Labors in no-decision

Baz did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 10-8 extra-inning win against the Yankees, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Baz entered with three straight quality starts but couldn't escape the fourth inning Saturday in his shortest outing of the season. He struggled with command, generating just eight whiffs on 83 pitches while issuing four walks for the second time in four starts. The 25-year-old will carry a 3.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 22.1 innings into a road matchup with the Mariners next weekend.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Pushed back to Monday

Baz will no longer start Sunday's game against Atlanta as planned and will instead make his next turn through the rotation Monday versus the Red Sox in Tampa, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The Rays are in the midst of a busy period in their schedule, so the team has elected to temporarily add a sixth man to the rotation. Joe Boyle was recalled from Triple-A Durham and will take the hill Sunday, and he will either shift to the bullpen or head back to the minors after the game. Baz now lines up for two starts during the upcoming week, with his second turn potentially coming next Saturday at home versus the Yankees.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Fans six in no-decision

Baz allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over seven innings in a no-decision Tuesday. He struck out six during the loss to the Angels. Baz faced a few threats, but the lone blemish on his outing was Kyren Paris' two-run shot in the second inning. Baz threw 58 of 96 pitches for strikes but generated only eight whiffs. He forced 13 swinging strikes in his first start of the season. Baz is sporting a 1.38 ERA with a 16:4 K:BB through 13 innings. His next outing is lined up to be at home against Atlanta this weekend.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Encouraged despite tough results

Baz was happy with his outing Thursday against the Nationals despite allowing four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks across 4.1 innings, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Baz was hit hard early, as he allowed two singles and a homer to the first three batters he faced. He managed to settle in from there, and more importantly, both he and manager Kevin Cash were happy with the shape and execution of his pitches. Baz has allowed 10 earned runs with a 4:5 K:BB across 9.1 innings this spring, though his rotation spot seems secure given there haven't been signs of panic from either he or the team.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Six strong innings

Baz allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out six across six innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision. Baz dominated early and held the Blue Jays without a hit through three innings. His only true trouble came in the fourth when he escaped a bases-loaded jam by allowing only one earned run. There were other positives from the performance, as Baz didn't allow a home run for the first time in his last four starts. He has also allowed only one walk in each of his last three outings and has complied a 16:3 K:BB across 18.1 innings during that span.

  • Rays' Shane Baz: Breezes to third win

Baz (3-3) earned the win Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out six. The 25-year-old flamethrower was outstanding in this 96-pitch performance, generating an impressive 18 whiffs -- with 10 alone coming on his fastball -- en route to his six punchouts. All the damage Boston was able to do came via a Triston Casas two-run homer in the second inning. This marks the fifth consecutive outing in which Baz has yielded two or fewer runs, as he's pitched to a 2.03 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB over 31 innings during that span. He is scheduled to make his next start against Toronto at home this weekend.
