Diamondbacks' Nabil Crismatt: Booted from 40-man roster
Rotowire
The Diamondbacks designated Crismatt for assignment Friday.
Crismatt will lose his spot on the active and 40-man rosters Friday after yielding seven runs (five earned) across three innings against the Dodgers on Thursday. Bryce Jarvis was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Crismatt has a 3.71 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 34 innings with Arizona this season.
Crismatt allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over three innings in Thursday's 8-0 loss to the Dodgers.
The Dodgers jumped on him as soon as he entered the game in the second inning after opener Jalen Beeks. The first batter he faced, Andy Pages, greeted Crismatt with a solo home run, and a two-run single followed that. Two frames later, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman took him deep for a pair of two-run home runs. The right-hander had a nice run as a starter, posting a 2.70 ERA over six starts, but was moved to the bullpen for the final week of the regular season as Arizona opted for a four-man rotation while in the hunt for a wild-card spot.

Rotowire
Crismatt will be used as a bulk reliever in Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Diamondbacks' Nabil Crismatt: Moving to bullpen
Rotowire
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Crismatt will be moved to the bullpen while Arizona proceeds with a four-man rotation for the rest of the season, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports.
Despite moving several key pieces at the trade deadline, the 77-75 Diamondbacks surprisingly find themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot with a week and a half remaining in the season. As a result, Lovullo will take a postseason-like approach with the rotation down the stretch as the Diamondbacks look to chase down the 78-73 Mets for the final wild-card spot. Since being called up from Triple-A Reno on Aug. 17, Crismatt has given the Diamondbacks quality production out of the fifth spot in the rotation, turning in a 2.70 ERA over his six outings. Crismatt's underlying numbers (10.9 K-BB%, 4.45 SIERA) are far less impressive, so he likely would have been bound to regress had he continued to make regular starts for Arizona.

Diamondbacks' Nabil Crismatt: Picks up third win
Rotowire
Crismatt collected the win in Sunday's 6-4 victory at Minnesota, allowing two runs (both unearned) on three hits and no walks over five innings. He struck out four.
The Colombian righty generated a solid 12 whiffs out of his 83 total pitches, as he lowered his ERA from 3.24 to 2.70 with this appearance. Both unearned runs scored in the second when the Arizona defense produced two errors in a sloppy inning. In 30 total innings, Crismatt has been a surprisingly solid arm, pitching to a 3.85 FIP, 1.27 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB, providing great production for a depleted Diamondbacks staff. He currently projects to make his next start at home against the Phillies next weekend if he sticks in the rotation.

Diamondbacks' Nabil Crismatt: Ineffective versus Giants
Rotowire
Crismatt allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Monday.
Crismatt gave up multiple home runs in an appearance for the first time this season. He was limited to 50 pitches (34 strikes) in this ineffective start. The right-hander has posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB through 25 innings over five outings (four starts). With Anthony DeSclafani back from a thumb injury, Crismatt can ill afford any further poor performances.
Crismatt allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over 6.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Tuesday.
Crismatt has won his last three outings, and this one was his first quality start. The 30-year-old has stepped up effectively since entering Arizona's rotation in mid-August, delivering a 2.14 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB across 21 innings through four appearances (three starts). Crismatt is tentatively projected to make his next start at San Francisco next week, assuming Anthony DeSclafani (thumb) isn't activated from the injured list.

Rotowire
Crismatt (2-0) earned the win Thursday over the Brewers, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.
Crismatt stumbled out of the gate Thursday, giving up at least one run in each of his first three innings. However, the right-hander managed to limit the damage against the Brewers, ultimately coming away with his second win in three appearances this season. The 30-year-old Crismatt has surrendered just three earned runs through his first 14.2 innings despite allowing 15 hits and five walks. He should remain in Arizona's rotation while Anthony DeSclafani (thumb) is sidelined. Crismatt's currently lined up to face the Rangers at home in his next outing.

Diamondbacks' Nabil Crismatt: Slated for start Sunday
Rotowire
The Diamondbacks plan to call up Crismatt from Triple-A Reno to start Sunday's game against the Rockies, Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic reports.
Crismatt has worked almost exclusively as a reliever during his time in the majors, but he was a full-time starter with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies system until he was released in early August. Over 19 starts with Lehigh Valley, he posted a 4.04 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 68:25 K:BB across 100.1 innings while averaging over five frames per outing. He covered just two innings in his first start with Reno on Wednesday, so he should be relatively fresh Sunday, despite pitching on three days' rest. Arizona is in need of a fifth starter after Anthony DeSclafani landed on the injured list Wednesday due to an injured thumb.

Crismatt signed a minor-league contract Friday with the Dodgers, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
Crismatt was lit up for 13 runs -- 12 earned -- over 13 major-league innings with the Padres and Diamondbacks in 2023, but he held a solid 3.38 ERA and 144:47 K:BB in 157 big-league frames between 2020-22. Maybe the 28-year-old can get himself righted in the Dodgers' vaunted pitching system.
