  • Angels' Angel Felipe: Struggling at Triple-A

Felipe (elbow) has allowed 12 earned runs on 11 hits and nine walks while striking out five over three innings across his five relief appearances since being reinstated from Triple-A Salt Lake's 60-day injured list June 10. After missing all of 2024 following Tommy John surgery last March, Felipe has struggled to regain effectiveness since being cleared for game action in mid-May. He struggled mightily over his six-appearance rehab assignment at Single-A Inland Empire (7.71 ERA, 3.10 WHIP, 4:7 K:BB in 4.2 innings), and he's continued to lack both command and control since reporting to Salt Lake. Since he's a 28-year-old reliever on a minor-league deal, the Angels don't have much of an investment in Felipe and could end up cutting him if he doesn't turn his performance around soon.

  • Angels' Angel Felipe: Inks MiLB deal with Angels

Felipe signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Wednesday, Taylor Blake Ward of TheSportingTribune.com reports. Felipe was released by the Athletics earlier this month, two days after he underwent Tommy John surgery. Unlike the Athletics, the Angels are willing to wait out his rehab in hopes he can contribute to their bullpen at some point in 2025. Felipe held a 4.20 ERA and 19:13 K:BB over 15 innings during his brief time with Oakland in 2023.

  • Angel Felipe: Hits open market

The Athletics released Felipe (elbow) on Monday. Felipe was designated for assignment Saturday and will now become a free agent after failing to draw any interest on waivers. He's already been ruled out for the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery Friday.

  • Athletics' Angel Felipe: Designated for assignment

The Athletics designated Felipe (elbow) for assignment Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Felipe will miss the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery Friday, and he'll now be without a spot on the 40-man. The newly-signed J.D. Davis will fill Felipe's place on the roster.

  • Athletics' Angel Felipe: Lands on injured list

Felipe was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a sprained right elbow, Martin Gallegos of MLB.comreports. Felipe presumably suffered the injury Monday in St. Louis when he was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs in one-third of an inning. It's unclear exactly how long the right-hander will be sidelined, but the fact it's an elbow injury could put his season in jeopardy.

  • Athletics' Angel Felipe: Goes on paternity list

The Athletics placed Felipe on the paternity list Saturday. Felipe has allowed one run on two hits in 6.1 innings of relief this season, though his 6:4 K:BB paints a less encouraging picture of his performance. Chad Smith had his contract selected to take Felipe's place on the roster.

  • Athletics' Angel Felipe: Recalled from Triple-A

Felipe was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Felipe was claimed off waivers from the Padres last month. The 25-year-old has put up a 5.46 ERA and 46:19 K:BB over 29.2 innings at the Triple-A level in 2023. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

  • Athletics' Angel Felipe: Claimed off waivers

Oakland claimed Felipe off waivers from the Padres on Wednesday and sent him to Triple-A Las Vegas. Felipe was designated for assignment by the Padres on Sunday to clear a spot on their 40-man roster, and he finds a new home a few days later. The right-hander has struggled in 2023 with a 6.20 ERA and 1.82 WHIP with Triple-A El Paso, but he did impress in 2022 with 14 saves with 84 strikeouts over 62 innings in the minors, and Oakland will hope he can find that form again in the second half of 2023.
