Deyvison De Los Santos is still 22 and is on the Marlins' 40-man roster, but it's tough to envision him providing enough offensive value in the big leagues to make up for his lack of defensive value. The righty-hitting corner infielder was expected to compete for big-league at-bats early last season, but he never forced a promotion from Triple-A and was 15 percent worse (85 wRC+) than the average International League hitter. De Los Santos cut his swing rate from 58.2 percent in 2024 to 51.4 percent in 2025 while upping his contact rate from 66.2 percent to 71 percent, so the Marlins are clearly working with him and getting results. Unfortunately, his groundball rate remains an issue (51.3 percent) and De Los Santos makes so much weak contact that his overall hard-hit rate was middling (43.9 percent) despite the fact he had an elite 118.5 mph maxEV. Given his age, raw power and slowly improving swing decisions, the Marlins figure to give De Los Santos another big-league camp to impress, but he enters 2026 with a chance to make his big-league debut and also a chance to lose his 40-man roster spot before the season is over.

It was a two-day stint in the big leagues for De Los Santos, who is clearing out to make room on the roster for Leo Jimenez, who was acquired via trade from the Blue Jays on Sunday. With De Los Santos now back at Jacksonville, Connor Norby should operate as the Marlins' primary first baseman while Christopher Morel (oblique) is shelved.

    De Los Santos went 1-for-2 with a double in Sunday's win over the Rockies. The 22-year-old got the start at first base and hit eighth in the order against southpaw Jose Quintana, and he took advantage of the matchup with a two-bagger in his first big-league at-bat of the year. De Los Santos was called up when Christopher Morel (oblique) landed on the IL, but the Marlins have plenty of other options to handle first base, including left-handed hitters Griffin Conine and Liam Hicks as well as the righty-swinging Connor Norby. Given De Los Santos' defensive shortcomings, he wasn't necessarily pushing for a promotion prior to the injury, as he was slashing .250/.317/.399 with five home runs and a 30.5 percent strikeout rate through 40 games in a repeat of Triple-A. He has started 30 games at first base and five games at third base. All three of the players (Eric Wagaman, Matt Mervis, Jonah Bride) to get time at first base for Miami have been below replacement level, per FanGraphs, so De Los Santos will likely still get a shot sometime in the second half.

De Los Santos finished the 2024 season with 40 home runs and 120 RBI between the Double-A and Triple-A levels. He got his strikeout rate down to 24.7 percent overall on the season, but it came in at 28.4 percent with Jacksonville after he landed there via trade. While there are swing-and-miss concerns, De Los Santos won't turn 22 until June and has immense raw power. He could get a shot with the Marlins at some point in 2025.

De Los Santos has always had plenty of raw power, and he's translated that to game action this season by posting a .324 ISO with Double-A Amarillo before being promoted to Triple-A Reno. He has 28 total home runs across 87 games between the two levels and could provide some needed thump to the middle of the Marlins order in the near future.     De Los Santos was named the Texas League Player of the Month for April after leading the circuit with 32 hits, seven home runs and 58 total bases for Double-Amarillo, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. De Los Santos spent the spring with the Guardians, who selected him in the Rule 5 draft, but he did not make Cleveland's roster. The 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic picked up at Amarillo where he left off in 2023. De Los Santos was added to the development list in 2023 following a rough start, but he crushed Double-A pitching in the second half of the season, posting a .322/.340/.596 slash line after July 14. The power-hitting prospect made strides at the plate while with the Guardians, developing a more "major league approach," according to Amarillo manager Tim Bogar, who feels the experience in a major-league spring training camp was helpful. To become a well-rounded prospect, De Los Santos needs to work on his defense. He's played both third and first base since being signed as a 16-year-old, but the organization plans to limit him to first base only going forward.

    De Los Santos has hit .329/.345/.565 with five homers and a steal in 20 games since being promoted to High-A Hillsboro. Those are impressive numbers, but they come with two major asterisks: a .418 BABIP and a 2:25 BB:K. However, he's also a 19-year-old in a league where he's 3.5 years younger than the average player, so the fact that he's been able to put up gaudy numbers early on in High-A despite facing more advanced pitching has to weigh in his favor. He won't be rushed to the big leagues and he may not stick at third base, where he's been an absolute butcher this season (15 errors), but there are precious few minor leaguers who can match his power.

Overall, the corner infielder is slashing .315/.355/.508 with 11 homers and 56 RBI over 61 games for the Rawhide. Standing at 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds, the 19-year-old has the body for power. The Diamondbacks hope his body lets him stick at third base, but there remains a chance he outgrows the position and has to move across the diamond to first base.
