  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Moving through throwing program

Brown (shoulder) had been scheduled to throw a live bullpen session this weekend, MLB.com reports. The Rockies have yet to officially confirm whether Brown was able to complete the next step in his throwing program, but at the very least, the report presumably indicates that the right-hander has already thrown off a mound without a hitter present in the batter's box. Brown has been on the mend from right shoulder inflammation since the early weeks of spring training, and given how long he's been shelved, he'll likely need to complete multiple live sessions before moving on to what will presumably be an extended minor-league rehab assignment. The 26-year-old has three minor-league options remaining and could be sent to Triple-A Albuquerque or Double-A Hartford once he's deemed ready to return from the 60-day injured list.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Moves to 60-day IL

The Rockies transferred Brown (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Brown has been dealing with right shoulder inflammation since the beginning of spring camp, and his move to the 60-day IL will officially keep him on the sidelines until at least May 24. Sammy Peralta was claimed off waivers from the Brewers to fill the open spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Throws bullpen session

Brown (shoulder) threw a bullpen session consisting of 20 fastballs Friday, MLB.com reports. Brown has been dealing with a shoulder issue all spring and looks likely to head to the injured list to begin the season. He'll start mixing in breaking balls in his next bullpen session before progressing to live batting practice.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Cleared for mound work

Brown (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Brown has been brought along slowly early on in Rockies camp due to right shoulder inflammation, but his recovery is coming along well. If things go well for the righty Friday, his Cactus League debut shouldn't be far off. Brown is likely ticketed for the Triple-A Albuquerque rotation to begin the 2026 campaign.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Falls to Giants

Brown (0-5) took the loss Sunday against San Francisco, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across three innings. He struck out two. Both runs charged to Brown came via the long ball -- he gave up a solo shot to Willy Adames to lead off the game before Rafael Devers led off the fourth with another homer. It's a tough way to finish the season for Brown, who allowed one run while striking out 10 in his last time out against the Mariners. Overall, Brown posted a 7.36 ERA with a 1.83 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB across 25.2 innings in his first seven major-league starts.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Best start of season in no-decision

Brown did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing a run on two hits and two walks over five innings in a 4-3 loss against the Mariners. He struck out 10. Brown delivered the best outing of his young MLB career, working five innings and notching double-digit strikeouts for the first time, though he came away without a win. The right-hander entered the game with a rough line through his first five starts -- a 9.17 ERA, 2.09 WHIP and more walks (13) than strikeouts (11). The 25-year-old is lined up to make one more start in the regular-season finale Sunday against the Giants.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Better in second start

Brown (0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings to take the loss versus the Cubs on Saturday. Brown did a little better in his second MLB start, but he still wasn't all that successful in his first turn at Coors Field. He was able to keep the ball down, but he's walked three batters in each of his two outings, and he'll need to improve in that area to find more success. Brown is tentatively scheduled for another home start next week against the Padres.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Drawing second start

Brown is slated to start Saturday's game against the Cubs. Colorado is getting German Marquez (biceps) back from the injured list Friday, but Brown will stick around in the rotation with Antonio Senzatela having been moved to the bullpen earlier this week. After bypassing Triple-A, Brown took the loss in his MLB debut Sunday, surrendering four earned runs on five hits and three walks across 3.2 innings. The rookie won't make for an appealing streaming option while taking on the Cubs at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Called up ahead of MLB debut

The Rockies selected Brown's contract from Double-A Hartford ahead of his scheduled start Sunday in Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old right-hander will bypass the Triple-A level to make his MLB debut, taking over the rotation spot that belonged to Austin Gomber. Brown had his development stalled after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, but he's enjoyed good health in 2025 and has accrued a 2.47 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 105:30 K:BB in 76.2 innings between Hartford and High-A Spokane. Though he'll benefit from a debut in a pitcher-friendly venue against a weak Pirates lineup, Brown's lack of high-level experience renders him a risky streaming option, even in NL-only leagues.

  • Rockies' McCade Brown: Expected to make MLB debut Sunday

The Rockies are expected to call up Brown from Double-A Hartford to start Sunday's game against the Pirates at PNC Park, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. After Colorado released Austin Gomber on Friday, Brown looks to be the leading candidate to fill the opening in the rotation. The 79th overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, Brown missed significant development time after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023 and has yet to pitch above the Double-A level, but he's pitched effectively over 11 outings for Hartford. Since getting promoted from High-A Spokane on May 30, the 25-year-old right-hander has logged a 3.14 ERA and 57:15 K:BB across 43 innings at Double-A.
