Despite being limited to just seven starts for High-A Eugene in 2023 before being shut down in late June with right forearm tightness, Ragsdale was advanced to Double-A to begin the 2024 season. The 25-year-old right-hander spotted 45 of his 68 pitches for strikes Saturday, and with the exception of the two-run home run he served up in the first inning, he largely avoided hard contact when he wasn't making bats miss. Ragsdale is recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery this spring, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
As a point of reference, Brewers pitching prospect Antoine Kelly underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in November 2020 and returned in July 2021, so Ragsdale may not be able to pitch at all this season. It's a major setback, as the success rate on making a full return from this procedure isn't great, and Ragsdale was coming off a strong 2021 season at Low-A.
