  • Braves' Carson Ragsdale: Claimed off waivers by Atlanta

Atlanta claimed Ragsdale off waivers from the Orioles on Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Ragsdale had an inauspicious major-league debut with the Orioles over the weekend, allowing eight runs over three innings. He found himself jettisoned from Baltimore's 40-man roster after that, but the righty has landed on his feet with Atlanta. Ragsdale will report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Orioles' Carson Ragsdale: DFA'd by Orioles

The Orioles designated Ragsdale for assignment Monday.

Ragsdale was torched for eight runs over three innings in his major-league debut during Sunday's loss to Toronto and now finds himself off the 40-man roster a day later. It's the second time during the second half that he's been designated for assignment, as he was traded from the Giants to the Orioles in late July after San Francisco booted him from its 40-man roster.

The Orioles recalled Ragsdale from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Ragsdale was claimed off waivers from San Francisco in early August and has posted a 3.47 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB over 23.1 innings with Norfolk. He's worked mostly as a starter as a minor-leaguer but will likely slot out of the Orioles' bullpen during his first taste of the majors. Ragsdale's call-up is the corresponding move to reliever Shawn Dubin (elbow) being placed on the 15-day IL.

The Giants designated Ragsdale for assignment Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The move makes room on the Giants' 40-man roster for Carson Whisenhunt, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of his major-league debut against the Pirates. Ragsdale has spent the entire 2025 season in Triple-A, where he's posted a 5-5 record across 18 games (14 starts) with a 5.37 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 58:38 K:BB across 65.1 innings.

The Giants optioned Ragsdale to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

  • Giants' Carson Ragsdale: Makes Double-A debut

Ragsdale (forearm) struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks over four innings Saturday in Double-A Richmond's 13-3 win over Somerset.

Despite being limited to just seven starts for High-A Eugene in 2023 before being shut down in late June with right forearm tightness, Ragsdale was advanced to Double-A to begin the 2024 season. The 25-year-old right-hander spotted 45 of his 68 pitches for strikes Saturday, and with the exception of the two-run home run he served up in the first inning, he largely avoided hard contact when he wasn't making bats miss. Ragsdale recorded four groundouts compared to one flyout on the day.

Ragsdale, who is on the 7-day injured list at High-A Eugene with right forearm soreness, should return in late July, Baseball America reports.

Ragsdale, who ranked second in the minors with 167 strikeouts in 2021, got off to a great start with the Emeralds before the injury, although at 25, he is old for the level. The 6-foot-8 righty has a 2.93 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 27.2 innings across seven starts.

Ragsdale was limited to 5.2 innings in rookie ball last season after recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Giants farm director Kyle Haines added that Ragsdale has looked good with a mid-90s fastball and a strong slider. The right-hander will need to prove himself with Eugene before moving up to Double-A Richmond.

  • Giants' Carson Ragsdale: Needed thoracic outlet surgery

Ragsdale is recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery this spring, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

As a point of reference, Brewers pitching prospect Antoine Kelly underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in November 2020 and returned in July 2021, so Ragsdale may not be able to pitch at all this season. It's a major setback, as the success rate on making a full return from this procedure isn't great, and Ragsdale was coming off a strong 2021 season at Low-A.
