Giants' Casey Schmitt: Diagnosed with torn meniscus
The Giants placed Schmitt on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left knee meniscus tear.
The 27-year-old faces the possibility of being shut down for the season, even if the severity of the tear isn't a worst-case scenario. In a corresponding move, the Giants selected Osleivis Basabe from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Giants' Casey Schmitt: Nursing knee discomfort
Schmitt left Monday's game against the Brewers due to left knee discomfort and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Schmitt appeared to tweak his knee on a hard turn around first base during Monday's series opener and was forced to come out of the game. Manager Tony Vitello stated after the matchup that he expects Schmitt to miss some time, indicating that a trip to the injured list is likely. The club should have a formal diagnosis following Tuesday's scans, at which point a timetable for the 27-year-old's return could become more clear.

Giants' Casey Schmitt: Exits with lower-body injury
Schmitt left Monday's game against the Brewers due to an apparent lower-body injury, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Schmitt looped a single into right field in the bottom of the second inning, but he looked to twist either his left knee or left ankle while putting on the brakes around first base. Christian Koss entered the game to pinch run for Schmitt, who wasn't able to put much weight on his left leg on his way off the diamond. The club should have another update on Schmitt's injury after sending him for further evaluation.

Schmitt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Angels.
Schmitt homered for the second game in a row and for the fifth time across 18 contests in July. He's batting just .230 (17-for-74) this month, but he's supplied 11 RBI. Schmitt also has a share of the Giants' lead for homers with 21, and he's batting .272 with a .792 OPS, 54 RBI, 46 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple and nine stolen bases over 95 contests.

Schmitt singled in the fifth inning and subsequently stole second, marking his first stolen base since June 16. He added another base hit in the seventh before coming around to score.
