  • White Sox's Drew Romo: Resting Saturday

Romo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners. Romo has seemingly taken over as the White Sox's preferred option behind the dish, but he'll give way to Edgar Quero on Saturday after going 0-for-6 with a pair of walks over his last two starts.

  • White Sox's Drew Romo: Poaching work from Quero

Romo will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Angels. Slated to start for the fifth time in the White Sox's last six matchups with right-handed pitchers, Romo may have at least temporarily supplanted the struggling Edgar Quero as the team's No. 1 backstop. Since being called up from Triple-A Charlotte on April 25, Romo has made a splash at the back end of the Chicago lineup, going 3-for-14 with three home runs and a 6:3 BB:K over his first six games with the big club.

  • White Sox's Drew Romo: Lifts homer Sunday

Romo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Padres. Romo has three homers over his last three games. The catcher is filling the backup role behind Edgar Quero while Kyle Teel (hamstring) remains on the injured list. Romo is batting .300 (3-for-10), with all of his hits being homers so far this season. He's added four RBI, four runs scored and a 5:3 BB:K across 16 plate appearances since he was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on April 25.

  • White Sox's Drew Romo: Homers twice against Halos

Romo went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Angels. After the White Sox DFA'd Reese McGuire last weekend, Romo was the one to get the call while Kyle Teel continues to rehab his hamstring. After going 0-for-3 in his first start Sunday, Romo took Jose Soriano deep for a two-run shot in the fourth Tuesday and later added a solo homer in the sixth against Brent Suter. They were the first two homers of Romo's career in his 22nd big-league contest.

  • White Sox's Drew Romo: Receives outright assignment

Romo cleared waivers Friday and has been outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte while receiving a non-roster invite to spring training, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Romo was designated for assignment Sunday, and after clearing waivers, he'll remain within the organization. The 24-year-old catcher will join the White Sox at spring training as a non-roster invitee. Romo spent most of the 2025 season with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, where he slashed .264/329/.409 with seven homers, 23 RBI, 28 runs scored and two stolen bases across 244 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Drew Romo: DFA'd by White Sox

The White Sox designated Romo for assignment Sunday. The 24-year-old catcher was claimed off waivers by Chicago in early January and will now go through the waiver process once again. Romo has also spent time on the rosters of the Rockies, Orioles and Mets this offseason. He spent most of 2025 at the Triple-A level and had a .738 OPS in 244 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Drew Romo: Claimed off waivers by Mets

The Mets claimed Romo off waivers from the Orioles on Wednesday. Romo has bounced around from the Rockies to the Orioles and now the Mets this month. The switch-hitting catcher is just 9-for-54 at the plate during his brief time in the majors. With Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens slated to open 2026 as the Mets' catching duo, Romo is likely to begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Orioles' Drew Romo: Headed to Baltimore

The Orioles claimed Romo off waivers from the Rockies on Friday. It wasn't that long ago that Romo looked like the Rockies' catcher of the future, but his progress stalled and Hunter Goodman emerged, leading Colorado to expose him to waivers. Romo is 9-for-54 at the plate during his brief time in the majors and slashed only .264/.329/.409 across 60 games in 2025 while playing his home games at hitter-friendly Triple-A Albuquerque. The Orioles already have Adley Rutschman and Samuel Basallo at the big-league level, so Romo will likely begin 2026 at Triple-A Norfolk, unless the club elects to carry three catchers.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Romo to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. Romo went 0-for-3 at the plate while serving as the Rockies' third catcher, and the return of Warming Bernabel (concussion) from the IL will now push the former back to the minor leagues. The 24-year-old backstop has slashed .264/.329/.409 across 244 plate appearances at Albuquerque and will most likely remain there for the rest of the year.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Called up as third catcher

The Rockies recalled Romo from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. Romo will hit the big leagues for the first time in 2025 after slashing .264/.329/.409 with seven home runs over 60 games at Albuquerque. He will serve as the Rockies' third catcher during the final month of the season.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Back in action for Triple-A club

Triple-A Albuquerque reinstated Romo (finger) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. Romo didn't play Tuesday in Albuquerque's 7-6 loss to Reno, but the 23-year-old backstop is healthy again after a finger injury sidelined him for the first seven weeks of the season. He was cleared to report to Albuquerque after going 3-for-16 with a walk, a stolen base, two runs and an RBI over five rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Likely to start in Triple-A

Romo is likely to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Albuquerque, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Manager Bud Black has praised Romo this spring for his improvement in blocking skills and in managing a game. However, Saunders suggests that the Rockies will opt to keep Hunter Goodman on the Opening Day roster thanks to his superior skills as a hitter. Even if Romo begins the season in the minors, there's a strong chance he'll be in Colorado at some point in 2025.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Struggling to find playing time

Romo is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers. Romo has now picked up just two starts in the Rockies' last seven games. With Jacob Stallings and Hunter Goodman also on hand as options at catcher, Romo is unlikely to see steady enough playing time over the final two weeks of the season to make for a reliable fantasy option, even in NL-only leagues.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: On bench again

Romo is not in Friday's lineup against the Brewers. Romo started four straight games to start the month, but he'll head to the bench for the second game in a row Friday. Both of his absences have come against righties, with Jacob Stallings getting the nod Friday and Hunter Goodman starting Thursday behind the dish.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Absent from Colorado lineup

Romo is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Atlanta. Romo was in the lineup for each of the Rockies' last four contests (three at catcher, one at designated hitter), but he will begin this one on the bench. Hunter Goodman is behind the plate for the series finale.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Idle Friday

Romo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore. Romo will give way to Jacob Stallings behind the dish Friday against Albert Suarez and the Orioles. Romo is 6-for-27 (.222) with a pair of doubles in seven games with Colorado.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Getting another start Wednesday

Romo will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals. Romo didn't start the Rockies' first game after being called up last Friday, but he's now been in the lineup for three of four contests since then and tallied his first major-league hit in Tuesday's game. Jacob Stallings still seems likely to play plenty behind the plate as well with Elias Diaz gone from the team.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Poised for big-league promotion

The Rockies are expected to call up Romo from Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Friday's game against the Padres, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Romo, who turns 23 later this month, has slashed .297/.339/.499 with 14 home runs and three stolen bases over 85 games this season with Albuquerque. With Elias Diaz expected to be released, the switch-hitting Romo will at least share catching duties with Jacob Stallings and could receive the bulk of the reps behind the plate.
