  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Falls in season finale

Paddack (5-12) took the loss Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out five over 4.1 innings. Paddack surrendered an early solo homer to Masataka Yoshida in the first inning before allowing another three runs to cross in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run shot from David Hamilton. The right-hander never retired more than four consecutive batters Sunday and the outing marked the sixth time in the second half he's allowed multiple home runs. The 29-year-old finishes the regular season on a difficult stretch, posting a 7.76 ERA with only 15 strikeouts over his last 31.1 innings across nine appearances.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Drawing start for Game 162

Paddack will draw the start on the mound in Sunday's game against Boston, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Paddack will replace Tarik Skubal on the rubber in Game 162 after Detroit secured a playoff berth with a 2-1 win over the Red Sox on Saturday, allowing the team the rest their ace in the regular-season finale. Since being acquired from the Twins in July, Paddack has posted a 6.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB in 42.2 innings over 11 appearances. He was moved to the bullpen earlier this month but should be able to provide the Tigers with a decent amount of length after tossing five innings of long relief in his most recent appearance Sept. 19 versus Atlanta.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Looks sharp, earns first MLB save

Paddack tossed three perfect innings of relief in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Yankees to earn a save. He struck out four. After spending a few days on the bereavement list due to a death in the family, Paddack made his first appearance since Sept. 2 and looked sharp working the final three innings of the game to record his first career MLB save, albeit with a big cushion after the Tigers scored nine times in the seventh. It was the veteran righty's second relief outing this year across 29 games overall, and he's expected to stick in the Detroit bullpen moving forward. Paddack has an underwhelming 5.26 ERA and 6.3 K/9 on the season that limit his fantasy appeal, particularly now that he's not in the rotation, though his stuff could play up a bit in long relief.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Back from bereavement list

The Tigers activated Paddack from the bereavement list Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Paddack was away from the team the previous three days but will rejoin the Tigers' bullpen for the final two games of the team's series against the White Sox. Paddack has been roughed up across seven appearances (six starts) with Detroit since he was acquired from Minnesota, registering a 6.89 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB across 31.1 innings. He's surrendered 10 home runs in that span.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Goes on bereavement list

The Tigers placed Paddack (personal) on the bereavement list Wednesday. Paddack will be away from the team anywhere from 3-to-7 days following a death in his family. After Paddack had posted a 2-2 record, 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB in 30 innings over six starts since being acquired in a trade with the Twins on July 28, the Tigers moved him to the bullpen earlier this week. Paddack struggled mightily in his first relief appearance in Tuesday's 12-5 loss to the Mets, covering 1.1 innings while allowing six earned runs on eight hits.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Demoted to bullpen

The Tigers removed Paddack from the rotation Tuesday and will deploy him out of the bullpen moving forward, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The right-hander's demotion to the bullpen comes after he submitted a 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 30 innings since the Tigers acquired him from the Twins on July 28. Paddack will give up his spot in the rotation to Sawyer Gipson-Long, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Tuesday's game versus the Mets.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Can't get through fourth inning

Paddack took a no-decision Friday against the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks in 3.2 innings. He failed to record a strikeout. Paddack was pulled after tossing just 58 pitches, his second-fewest total of the season, and it was his shortest outing since way back on March 31 against the White Sox. Although it was also the second time this year that the 29-year-old right-hander registered zero punchouts, he at least managed to settle down after Kansas City tagged him for three runs in the first frame. Paddack has an underwhelming 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 30 innings since joining the Tigers, and his streaming appeal will be limited with a tough matchup against the Mets on tap for next week.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Tagged for eight runs

Paddack (4-11) took the loss Sunday against the Twins, allowing eight runs on nine hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four. Six of the runs charged to Paddack came in the third inning, highlighted by Brooks Lee's two-out grand slam. The 29-year-old Paddack has given up 12 runs over 9.2 innings in two starts against the Twins, his former team, since joining Detroit at the trade deadline -- he allowed just six runs over 15.2 innings in his other three outings. Overall, Paddack sports a 5.10 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 96:31 K:BB across 25 starts (132.1 innings) between the Tigers and Twins this season. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, tentatively lined up for next week at home against the Royals.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Fans four in no-decision

Paddack didn't factor into the decision Monday against the White Sox, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in 5.2 innings. He struck out four. Paddack yielded a lone run for the third time in his last four starts, and the one walk was his first issued since his July 18 outing in Colorado. The 29-year-old right-hander also pitched efficiently, as he threw 54 of his 76 pitches for strikes, though Colson Montgomery did take him deep for a solo shot in the fifth inning. Paddack has a weak 6.34 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over his last 11 starts (55.1 innings), but he'll try to build on Monday's performance this weekend in Minnesota against his former Twins team.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Falls to former team

Paddack (4-10) allowed four runs on six hits over four innings while taking a loss against the Twins on Tuesday. He did not record a walk or a strikeout. Paddack faced the Twins for the first time since being traded from Minnesota to Detroit in July and struggled right out of the gate. He gave up three runs in the first inning, including Luke Keaschall's two-run homer. Trevor Larnach later belted a solo shot in the fourth. Paddack threw only 57 pitches (44) strikes, his lowest pitch total in any outing this year. He produced two straight quality starts before Tuesday's hiccup, and he's now sporting a 4.91 ERA with an 88:27 K:BB through 121 frames. Paddack is expected to face the White Sox in Chicago next week.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Collects win in Detroit debut

Paddack (4-9) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. The right-hander celebrated being dealt to a Tigers team in the thick of the race for the best record in the AL by delivering his sixth quality start of the season on 84 pitches (58 strikes) in his debut for his new squad. Paddack has had an uneven campaign, posting a 4.77 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 88:27 K:BB through 117 innings, but simply being able to take a regular turn in the rotation has to count as a successful season -- that innings total is his highest since 2019. He'll look to build on this performance in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Twins team that just traded him away.

  • Tigers' Chris Paddack: Dealt to Tigers

The Tigers acquired Paddack and right-hander Randy Dobnak from the Twins on Monday in exchange for catcher Enrique Jimenez, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Paddack has had an up-and-down 2025 campaign, posting a 4.95 ERA and 83:27 K:BB across 111 innings covering 21 starts. He's coming off a dandy of a performance his last time out on the road against the Dodgers last Wednesday, striking out eight over six innings of one-run ball. With Reese Olson (shoulder) set to miss the rest of the regular season, Paddack seems to have been brought in specifically to replace Olson in the rotation.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Stymies Dodgers with eight Ks

Paddack didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing one run on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out eight. Paddack was able to keep a dangerous Dodgers lineup in check, but he was taken deep by the red-hot Shohei Ohtani for a solo shot in the first inning. It was an impressive bounce-back effort by Paddack, who registered his most strikeouts since his June 1 start in Seattle and threw at least six frames for the first time since a June 7 outing versus Toronto. The right-hander's shaky 4.95 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 83:27 K:BB over 111 innings still render him tough to trust his next time out versus the Red Sox, who have a .823 OPS against right-handed pitching over 18 games since the start of July.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Continues to show excellent control

Paddack didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Rays, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out five. The five punchouts were Paddack's most since he fanned 10 during his June 1 start. The right-hander hasn't thrown greater than five innings in any of his last five starts, but he's walked just two batters during that span. Paddack owns a lackluster 4.64 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 68:24 K:BB over 95 innings this year, and he shapes up as a fairly risky fantasy option his next time out in a difficult assignment at home versus the first-place Cubs.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Handed seventh loss

Paddack (3-7) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 4.2 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Tigers. Paddack was decent compared to recent outings, but he still gave up some loud contact, as four of the six hits he allowed went for extra bases. The first two runs came on solo shots by Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene, and Paddack's start came to an end after Carpenter's RBI triple in the fifth. Paddack has allowed 21 runs (19 earned) over his last 18.2 innings, which simply isn't good enough. His ERA is up to 4.70 with a 1.23 WHIP and 63:24 K:BB over 90 innings across 17 starts. That's already his most innings in any seasons since 2021, so it's possible the right-hander may be struggling with a heavier workload after multiple years in a row impacted by injuries. His next start is projected to come at home versus the Rays.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Another shaky start

Paddack (3-6) picked up the win Thursday against the Reds, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts over five innings. Fresh off a nine-run, 12-hit start last week, Paddack failed to bounce back Thursday, yielding a trio of extra-base hits, including a two-run home run by Gavin Lux. It's been an uncharacteristic stretch of play for Paddack, who had allowed two or fewer runs in six consecutive starts before his past two outings. On the year, Paddack owns a 4.48 ERA and a 56:23 K:BB across 80.1 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Mariners in his next start.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Ambushed by Astros

Paddack (2-6) took the loss Friday, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and a walk over four innings as Minnesota was dropped 10-3 by Houston. He struck out only one. The nine runs and dozen hits were both career worsts for Paddack, who coughed up at least one run in every frame until he got lifted after 85 pitches (56 strikes). Some regression was probably overdue -- the rough outing ended a stretch of 11 straight starts allowing three runs or fewer. He posted a 2.25 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 48:16 K:BB in 64 innings during that span. Paddack will look to rebound in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next week in Cincinnati.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Decent showing in loss

Paddack (2-4) took the loss Wednesday against Cleveland, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks across 5.1 innings. He struck out two. Paddack tied his season high in hits allowed -- yielding more than five hits for the first time since April 6 -- but he extended his streak of starts allowing three or fewer earned runs to nine. The 29-year-old has a 3.98 ERA and a 35:19 K:BB in 52 innings of work this season. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Rays early next week.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Tuesday's game postponed

Paddack won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Guardians since the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on this series, as Monday's contest was suspended after three innings and was set to resume prior to Tuesday's regularly scheduled game. The suspended contest is now set to resume Wednesday ahead of the second game of the series, and the other game is scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader Sept. 20. Paddack is likely to pitch in one of Wednesday's contests, with the suspended game being advantageous since the Twins hold a 2-1 lead.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Dominates Orioles

Paddack (2-3) picked up the win Thursday against Baltimore, allowing three hits and one walk with three strikeouts over seven scoreless innings. Paddack cruised to his second consecutive victory, logging his first scoreless start of 2025. He's now allowed one or fewer runs in three of his last four starts, and he owns a 1.85 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 24.1 innings during that stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday against the Guardians.
