  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Fans nine in win

Alcantara (7-11) earned the win over the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out nine over seven innings. The veteran right-hander turned in another excellent outing, generating 20 swinging strikes on a season-high 114 pitches and setting another season best with nine punchouts. Alcantara has now yielded one run or fewer in four of his last six starts, including three starts in which he finished the seventh inning, offering glimpses of the Cy Young-level dominance he displayed in prior seasons. Alcantara will take a 6.04 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 106:49 K:BB into his next scheduled start against Atlanta.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Sharp in no-decision

Alcantara came away with a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven. After coughing up 11 runs in 12 innings over his prior two outings, Alcantara rebounded to record his sixth quality start of the season on 86 pitches (65 strikes). It's been an uneven campaign for the right-hander in his return from Tommy John surgery, but in 30 innings over five starts since the All-Star break he's delivered a 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB, numbers more in line with his pre-injury form from 2023, if not quite at the level of his 2022 NL Cy Young season. Alcantara will look to stack another good performance in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Cardinals.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Surrenders five runs in defeat

Alcantara (6-11) took the loss against Atlanta in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out four batters over five innings. Alcantara was staked to a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but for the second straight game, he fell apart late. Marcell Ozuna tagged him for a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth frame and got to him again for a three-run blast in a four-run Atlanta fifth. In addition to giving up the pair of long balls, Alcantara struggled with his control, issuing four free passes and throwing just 53 of 91 pitches for strikes. Over his last two starts, the veteran hurler has given up 11 earned runs over 12 innings -- though all of those runs have come later than the third inning. It's been a difficult campaign overall for Alcantara, as his ERA now sits at an ugly 6.55 through 23 appearances.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Unravels in fourth inning

Alcantara (6-10) suffered the loss Monday versus Houston, allowing six runs on nine hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out five. The Miami right-hander was cruising through the first three frames of this 100-pitch outing, firing three clean innings. Then the floodgates opened in the fourth, as Alcantara conceded five runs on six hits, including three doubles. This marks the sixth time this season the former Cy Young Award winner has allowed six or more runs out of 22 total starts. Alcantara will carry a 6.44 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 86:43 K:BB across 116 total innings into his next start, currently scheduled to come at Atlanta this weekend.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Blanks Cardinals over five innings

Alcantara (6-9) earned the win Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing three hits and three walks in five scoreless innings. He struck out four. While Alcantara threw just 55 of his 94 pitches for strikes, he notably escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning to cap off a strong showing. Tuesday marked just the third scoreless start of the season for the right-hander, who also worked at least five frames while surrendering two runs or fewer for only the sixth time among 21 appearances in 2025. Through 109 innings, Alcantara still has an ugly 6.36 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 81:42 K:BB. The veteran righty has been a rumored trade candidate ahead of Thursday's deadline, but his next turn in Miami's rotation tentatively lines up for early next week at home versus the Astros as it stands.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Goes seven strong in win

Alcantara (5-9) earned the win against the Padres on Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts over seven innings. Alcantara threw 67 of 98 pitches for strikes and generated 11 whiffs in his longest outing of the season. It was a step in the right direction after the 29-year-old allowed 22 earned runs over his previous four starts, though he's now failed to record more than four strikeouts in six straight. He'll carry a 6.66 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 77:39 K:BB across 104 innings into a road matchup with the Cardinals next week.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Solid second-half start

Alcantara took a no-decision after throwing six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two, during Friday's 8-7 win over the Royals. Four runs through six innings may not seem like much to write home about, but that's a welcome sign for Alcantara, who had allowed 18 runs over his last three starts spanning 17 innings. The 29-year-old has had a nightmare campaign, with a 7.14 ERA that would blow his previous career-high of 4.32 from his rookie season out of the water, but it wasn't a bad start to the second half for the right-hander. He'll look to continue to build on this outing going into his next start, scheduled to be at home against the Padres.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Spiral continues

Alcantara (4-9) took the loss Wednesday against the Reds, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five. Alcantara seemed to get back on track in June after rattling off eight losses in nine starts spanning April 18 to May 28. He logged a 2.74 ERA and a 19:5 K:BB in his first four outings of the month. However, the 29-year-old has been shelled in three consecutive appearances since, yielding 18 runs and 24 hits across 17 innings. Alcantara owns a 7.22 ERA in 93 innings heading into the All-Star break as he continues to struggle in his first year back from Tommy John surgery.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Labors through six frames Friday

Alcantara didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers, coughing up five runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four. Milwaukee took full advantage of its opportunities against the right-hander, and a balk and a hit batter by Alcantara contributed to that offensive efficiency. It was still the third straight start, and fifth time in six outings, that the right-hander has given the Marlins six innings as he rehabilitates his trade value, but a 4.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB through 35 innings over that stretch are a long way from his NL Cy Young form of 2022. Alcantara will look for a better result in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cincinnati.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Tagged for seven runs

Alcantara did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and no walks over six innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out four. Alcantara struggled mightily, giving up a season high in hits and tying his season worst with the seven earned runs. The outing was a harsh setback after a promising start to June, during which he recorded a 2.74 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his first four starts (23.0 innings). For the season, the right-hander owns a 6.98 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 80.0 innings in 16 starts. While Alcantara has frequently been mentioned as a trade candidate, his rough 2025 campaign has significantly diminished his market value.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Grabs fourth win

Alcantara (4-8) earned the win Sunday over Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four. After a rough start to the season, Alcantara looks to be turning things around, posting a 2.74 ERA in his last four outings (23 innings). Overall, the 29-year-old Alcantara has posted a 6.69 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP and 59:34 K:BB across 15 starts (74 innings) this year after missing the 2024 campaign following Tommy John surgery. Alcantara is currently slated to face the Diamondbacks on the road his next time out.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Flashes old form Tuesday

Alcantara (3-7) picked up the win in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Pirates, allowing three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out six. The right-hander only ran into trouble in the third inning after a leadoff double by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but Alcantara escaped the jam and retired the last 10 batters he faced before leaving the mound. It was the best outing of the season for the 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner as he delivered his second straight quality start, and the win was his first since April 12. Alcantara will look to keep building momentum and chip away at his 7.14 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Phillies.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Losing skid continues

Alcantara (2-7) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings to take the loss versus the Angels on Friday. Alcantara continues to provide decent length, but he's given up at least four runs in five straight starts. He's lost his last seven outings, a span in which he's allowed seven of the eight home runs he's given up this year. This latest poor outing elevated Alcantara's ERA to 8.04 with a 1.57 WHIP and a 40:25 K:BB across 47 innings through 10 starts. It's not getting easier for the struggling starter, as Alcantara's next outing is projected to be at San Diego.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Stumbles late in loss

Alcantara (2-6) took the loss against the Rays on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five innings. Alcantara opened with four scoreless innings before unraveling in the fifth, when he allowed six baserunners and four runs. He generated only nine whiffs on 101 pitches and has now surrendered four earned runs or more in four straight outings. On the season, he owns a 7.99 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 34:23 K:BB across 41.2 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Angels next weekend.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Coughs up five runs

Alcantara (2-4) yielded five runs on six hits and a walk over five innings Monday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Dodgers. Alcantara gave up a pair of two-run homers to Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani in the third and fifth innings, respectively. Alcantara has made two straight starts against the Dodgers and was tagged with a combined 12 runs over 7.2 innings. He's now on a four-start losing streak and saw his ERA shoot up to 8.42 through 31 frames. Alcantara will look to end the skid in his next outing, which is lined up to be a road matchup with the White Sox this weekend.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Run over by Dodgers

Alcantara (2-3) took the loss Tuesday as the Marlins were routed 15-2 by the Dodgers, surrendering seven runs on seven hits and five walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out two. It was a disastrous outing right from the jump for Alcantara, as Shohei Ohtani roped the first pitch he saw from the right-hander down the right-field line for a leadoff homer. Alcantara got the hook after 79 pitches (43 strikes), and it's the second time in his last three trips to the mound that he's been tagged for at least six runs. The Marlins' gamble on waiting to trade Alcantara until he showed he was fully recovered from Tommy John surgery hasn't paid off -- through six starts and 26 innings, he carries a brutal 8.31 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 19:17 K:BB. He'll be tough to trust in an active fantasy lineup until he begins to show signs of life, but things won't get any easier for Alcantara in his next outing, a scheduled rematch with the Dodgers early next week back in Miami.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Takes loss in quality start

Alcantara (2-2) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings as the Marlins were downed 5-2 by the Reds. He struck out four. The quality start was the first of the season for Alcantara, who needed 102 pitches (68 strikes) to cover six innings for the first time in 2025. The 29-year-old righty is still trying to regain his form after Tommy John surgery, and he'll carry a 6.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 17:12 K:BB through 23.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Chased after second inning

Alcantara (2-1) took the loss against the Phillies on Friday, allowing six runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one in two innings. Alcantara put the Marlins on their back foot when he gave up a two-run homer to Bryce Harper in the first inning. Alcantara yielded four more runs in the second frame, and he did not return for the third inning after tossing 61 pitches (40 strikes) while generating only five whiffs. Friday's effort inflated Alcantara's ERA to 7.27 for the season, and he'll look to turn things around in his next start, tentatively slated for next week at home against the Reds.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Earns second win of 2025

Alcantara (2-0) got the win against the Nationals on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one batter across 5.2 innings. Alcantara went nine up, nine down through the first three innings, but he ran into trouble in the fourth when he allowed three runs after loading up the bases. He gave up a fourth run in the sixth inning on an Amed Rosario RBI single, and despite generating only three whiffs on 87 pitches (53 strikes), Alcantara was provided enough run support from the Marlins' offense to come away with his second win of the season. Alcantara has posted a 4.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB across 15.1 innings to begin the season, and his next start is tentatively slated for next week at home against the Diamondbacks.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Back from paternity leave

The Marlins reinstated Alcantara (personal) from the paternity list Thursday. Alcantara will rejoin the Marlins for their home series with the Nationals this weekend after he was away from the team for the past three days following the birth of his child. He's slated to start Saturday's game in what will be his third outing of the season and his first since April 1, after his previously scheduled start last weekend against Atlanta was rained out.
